I've got a VPI Scout comming on friday and was wondering if you guys had any budget minded stand plans. I was thinking of going with either a mapple stand & isolation blocks or building a sandbox of sorts and want this to look professional.

Pigmode has offered to send me some plans when he gets around to it, but in the mean time I was wondering if any of you guys had any ideas?

(I've seen the TNT-Audio sandbox plans & some of the basic ones they talk about on audiogon but am wanting something a bit more asthetically pleasing).

You can run a search over at audioasylum.com for the much-heralded Ikea LACK sidetable design. Some are very elaborate and some are very simple. The LACK sidetable is very inexpensive but audioasylum-inmates approved.

Do not use any type of suspension table or stand with the Scout. Use a wall bracket if your walls are solid, otherwise use a good, heavy isolation type stand. Also try a thick butcher block directly under the table and don't use any soft feet under the cones.

For the MMF-9, I have taken the Rega wall mount stand and put some vibrapods on the little standy part -- on top of that I had a piece of MDF, but I replaced it with a Zoethecus Z-slab. It works very well. Z-slabs are the shizznit, but they are pretty pricey. the MDF was a few dollars cut at my hardware store...

Soundboy,

I looked into the LACK stands and they do seem to be popular. I'm a bit skeptical, but at $15 bucks it might make a good temporary solution while I recoupe financially.

Tube,

I would love to use a wall mount setup, but the problem is I'm a student.. more speficially I'm renting my living space and my particualr complex is pretty anal about stuff like that. Any holes I put in the walls to mount it will be paid for in may. I'll probably look into that this summer/next year at law school though.

The butcher block solution has been similar to what I am considering. I was going to look into mapple cutting board/blocks at homedepot this evening. Would you recommend using anything between the black and my rack? ie. mappleshades isoblocks?

Stuart.

Same deal about the wall mount, but it is interesting to hear your particular setup. I think the Z-Slab might be a bit more then I want to spend. If I'm gonna be spending that much I might just go with a Black Diamond Racing VPI Scout platform.

Gopher, check out these mods of Ikea Lack "sidetables" as equipment racks....

These are not my systems (I wish!). I am, however, fan of the Ikea Corras "component rack", which I use as a stand for my turntable.
