Formula 1-fi (Read the First Post!)

Now that was what I call a qualifying!

  1. No surprise about pole.
  2. Apparently either Ricciardo is the real deal, or the Red Bull is a proper rocket when it works. I am surprised to see Seb so far off, but I think Horner mentioned engine troubles. I expect to see him a lot closer than that in general.
  3. On that note, a 10th win in a row is looking pretty unlikely for Vettel.
  4. If it rains tomorrow, I think Jenson might yet be able to threaten the podium, even from where he is. Seeing him, Vettel and hopefully Kimi making their way up should be interesting.
  5. Speaking of Kimi, not looking too good right now - he definitely seems to be having some trouble getting to grips with the F14 T. Hope that goes away quickly

  6. So much for Williams as the second fastest team...
  7. And Force India for the third fastest team...

Very much looking forward to the race. Just to see how wrong I can be, predictions:

Winner: Lewis Hamilton, lights to flag.
Second: Nico Rosberg, all the way behind.
Third: Fernando Alonso - although this one I'm less sure about.
Fastest Lap: Sebastian Vettel, just to show he can

And for retirements, I'm going to guess... Somewhere in the 6-8 range, including both Lotuses. Right now it looks to me like the pecking order is Mercedes, Red Bull, McLaren and Ferrari at the front in some order on pace, but after that hard to say, and who knows about race pace or reliability. Should be a nail-biter, especially if it's wet!

Interesting prediction. First crucial corner, let's see who comes out of this in decent condition always causes troubles at this track..
Weather conditions looks all right 10 minutes before the race but may change during the race.

I just want to see a decent performance from Mini Mag and that he gets through his first F1 and hopefully with a couple of points on the board and then..

Me too, I have really high hopes for him - this year is a high ask to do much more than match Button, but 2015 I think could very well be his year if he keeps up at this rate. We'll have a much clearer picture soon, though...

Agree, I think he will match Button and in the long course of this season perform better.

Lot's of tension.. Race is on.. .

Wow, what a start.. Vettel, Hamilton.. gone  Mini Mag in third and very cool how he cut across to gain third position very quickly..

I somehow don't think that was exactly planned:) Little bit caught out by the burst of electric power hooking up too quick. Amazing recovery though, and even more amazing race performance.

This could actually turn out to be a decent season.

Mini Mag on the podium in his first F1 race as a 21 year old, betters Hamilton rookie debut I believe.. I called it out on this thread months ago that he would have a podium spot in season 2013.....

Although I didn't quite expect it too happen in the first race..

Great job by Rosberg (runs with the family) and the hometown kid Ricciado. First Aussie on the podium I believe...

Overall,  McLaren came out on top.. Who saw that coming?

You could be very much right about the burst.. but it still looked cool..

Yes I agree an open season and hopefully unpredictable incl. some great races that we can look forward to... It;s been too predictable for too long..

Mercedes is so going to dominate this season unless Red Bull really manage to scramble!

But, there's an appeal due to the official fuel flow sensors being rubbish, so Red Bull used their own much better sensors..

Red Bull is confident of winning the appeal.

They are the only one being "confident"... Every other team used the same sensors and applied with FIAs ruling so no way Red Bull can win this appeal. It´s just for show :)

I don't see how they are going to get those points back. They were warned repeatedly about a fuel flow infringement - ignoring stewards is not a great strategy, even if you think you're in the right. Shame for Daniel really.

(Can't wait to see what that RB front end looks like in Sepang vis-a-vis camera pods too.)

Yes, Nico's lead was pretty ominous. Inconceivably, I almost find myself hoping for some quick Adrian Newey magic on that RB - not sure if Renault has it in them to close the gap. I want a close season with a Merc triumph at the end - not a Teutonic thrashing from day one. Maybe Macca and Williams can provide some stiff competition from within the Merc camp itself. Bottas and Magnussen looked brilliant out there.

This first race didn't answer as many questions as I thought it would.
