i want to upgrade player, I mean just for the sound. What player do you think is much better quality sound than the cowon c2? What about j3?

I have a few portables, and the Cowon C2 has the best SQ, IMO. You can't beat the hardware based EQ. I hear that the S9 and J3 are similar, and since your question was about SQ specifically, why pay more for video and other capabilities that you don't want or need? What is it that you don't like - as far as SQ - from the Cowon C2? Also - what kind of IEM's or cans are you using?

I am very satisfied from c2 has a very good sound, but I just want to upgrade and to know if there is a better quality sound portable .

I'm sorry if my English is not good.

Owning Cowon C2 in the past I would consider something like Colorfly C3 a clear upgrade.

There is always something better. :)  It's just a matter of how much money you have to spend.

Hi there,

Good to meet a fellow Cowon user.. I currently use an iAudio 10; will upgrade when time (and money, and wife), permit! :)

Here's a short list for you to follow up, based on my internet research so far, on the best-sounding portable players currently available; please do note that I have not had a listen to these (due to lack of local availability, mind you..), I'm giving you a list of options to research on, and make your decision.

1. Colorfly C4 -
2. iBasso DX 100 (Android OS based)
3. HiFiMan HM 801 -
4. Altmann Micro Machines Tera Player

Other than these top of the line players (all retail at upwards of 700 US Dollars), I would also suggest checking out some lower priced players such as HiFiMan HM 602, Colorfly C3 or even some Cowon players such as the X7.

Hope these options give you a good enough starting point for your research, and hope you discover your product soon, so that less privileged folks like myself can read your reviews!

Cheers & happy listening!

Probably your C2 with better earphones/iems. What are you you using?

There are VERY high priced audiophile players, but the evidence that they are any better than a Cowon or Sansa is doubtful - the placebo effect runs very high in audio...
