Headroom have both types on their site. Ask for an unopened box, rather than a return - just in case you get my possibly faulty one

After all the discussions of the AKG 271s, I have to conclude that the sound of these cans is one of the most subjective of any can made.

MY OPINION:

If you like the sound of the KSC-35, you are more likely a Grado fan and will probably find the 271's lean in the bottom end. A better choice for Grado fans may be the Beyerdynamic 250 line. I have not heard the 250-250, but the 250-80 definitely has more bottom end than the 271 at the expense of a dark/veiled midrange and top end. I understand that the 250-250 is a more accurate can than the 250-80.

If you like the sound of the Senns, the AKG 271s will be the closed can of choice. To my ears, the bass of the AKG 271 is very accurate and muscular sounding. It goes deeper than the Senn HD600. It is not bloated or forward sounding which IMHO is a trademark of the Koss KSC-35 and to a lesser extent the Grado line. The 271 responds well to amp upgrades where the bass will gain some bloom.
