I hope you have a good compatible amp for the hd800 as from what I read they need a good amp. Ultrasone 580 and pro900 are known for bass might want to look into that.
I got to listen to the hd800 at a meet over the weekend and actually used equipment that many would cringe at for sourcing it and I didn't find it to be as harsh as people have descrided. I fed it with a schiit modi for the dac and a schiit asgard2 for amp. I know it can get better but I was very pleased with the sound. I listen to a broad variety of music and some has a decent amount of bass and found the hd800 to have plenty of bass but lost nothing in the trebble and while I don't usually like bright headphones as I find them fatiguing the hd800 wasn't fatiguing at all. It is all how it sounds to you but this was my experience with a hd800.
You may want to consider the Beyerdynamic T51p if you want something portable. Fantastic bass impact without being boomy. Of course, not everyone would consider these audiophile cans.
