I'm not Shure...Need advice!

So far from people I know they like the M50 more than the 840, I want to listen to the M50 oneself one of these days. I am sure many people like the 840 better just happen they are not in my friend circle.

No contest IMO - SRH840 by a considerable margin.

The 840 is on my head now, at least seeing your post stop my temptation to audit something new. Haha, not to say I want a M50 just want to see that is the M50 all about. I am interested in CAL! for sure.

Im also curious about the m50s and wonder if they are overhyped or worth the money. They have a warmer soubd thab the 840s, right? But I imagine they would have less clarity.

Ive had a few hours of listening to various types of music with the Shure 940s and whilst I love the clarity it feels a bit like something is missing. The bass has very little impact and I have found on some tracks that the treble can be quite harsh.

They sound great with jazz music and strings but I feel like the music has no energy because they're so anemic.

I bought a pair of Soundmagic hp100s and am waiting to receive them. I hope they deliver a more punchy bass but retain a decent level of clarity. Does anyone know how the shure 940s compare to the soundmagic hp100s? Are the hp100s warmer? Is the bass punchier on the hp100s?
