What's the difference between the first and second generation Cardas cable?

check the ear-piece connections and the 1/4 plug. The new ear piece connectors look more "authentc" and fit tighter and the new plug is rhodium so it's colored like uh rhodium.

"Rhodium is a precious metal that is significantly more expensive than gold. It has a light-grey colour a little darker than silver, but much lighter than nickel. Pieces electroplated with rhodium have a durable, highly-polished metallic surface that will not tarnish or wear off with time."

Did the 1st generation Cardas cables have a golden plated plug?

i think there are actually 3 versions:

1. the original had small plugs that go into the headphones, and switchcraft plugs
2. the 2nd had larger plugs for the headphones and still switchcraft plugs
3. the newest ones have large headphone plugs and cardas rhodium plated plugs

i know, cause i've had #1 and #2, and have seen #3.

oh, i just know what each one looks like. Switchcraft 1/4" is famous, and has a distinct look (they use these things in 3/4 of the professional cables in the industry.) also, all the cardas plugs have the same barrel.... you can tell which one is which.

but if you want to know on yours... the switchcraft has a straight cylindrical barrel... the cardas has a barrel that tapers towards the tip.

So is this a switchcraft then?

No, that's a Cardas plug. I can tell by the shape, and even under the heatshrink you can see the taper Orpheus described.

oh ok, good news

Thanks.

Edit: on a side note, the plug fit isnt that great with my MOH, the plug moves when I move my cables from one side to the other, causing distruption/noises to the music. Do others with the cardas plugs have this problems too?

I seem to recall reading somewhere (here?) that some 1/4" Cardas plugs had a loose fit with some 1/4" jacks. I don't know if Cardas corrected the fit. Hopefully someone else more informed can speak up about it.
