I haven't been paying attention to the portable scene at all for a while, so am looking for advice. I have a 30G Cowon X5L that has seen sporadic use over the last ~5 years and is still working ok, but I'm starting to notice decreased battery life and I'm getting a bit uneasy about the HD - I might be imagining, but it seems to take longer to start up and maybe makes more noise than it used to. Since I actually expect to use my portable a bit more in the forseeable future, it seems reasonable to look at a slightly firmer foundation.

Use:
- in the car via an aux in
- at work w/ T50rp phones, may look at changing up but likely nothing exotic (W4 iems maybe)
- at our cabin feeding a boom box via aux in.

So, highly portable/tiny isn't necessary, 'good' SQ desired but doesn't have to be uber-audiophile, storage important (close to full of high bitrate OGG, and I have tons of stuff I haven't loaded yet).

Option 1.
I could follow the various upgrade threads around and overhaul the X5L with a 64GB SSD and 2 new batteries. This would run ~125 or so based on ebay pricing and would give me a pretty good setup - increased storage and due to the lower power draw it should give very respectable battery life. However, it requires opening things up and if I'm not careful it could go south.

Option 2
Something new. My requirements seem to be fairly generic
- SQ comparable to the X5L
- 64G capacity strongly preferred (it's fine if I have to use SD expansion to get there)
- OGG support strongly preferred so I don't have to re-encode.
- at this point, looking to keep it under say $250

So, opinions and suggestions welcome.

I used to have an X5 and it sounds great. Problem is the battery and I have become spoiled by newer players who have 20 hours or more of play back. I probably would go with option 2 - a clip plus (if you get the Clip you probably have money left to do option oneas well:)

The Samsung Galaxy player 4.2, Sony F, Z, A, S series walkmen, philips Go Gear, Samsung P3, Cowon X7, X9 are recommended and they all offers large storage and long battery life with very good soundquality out of HP jack and few has lineout to add AMPs for better soundquality and Andriod based DAP soundquality canbe improve further through APPs.
