AKG K167 TIËSTO - Discussion, Impression, Review & Appreciation Thread

The treble of the K167 is more refined, more detailed and airy. Mids are not recessed and bass is tighter and with more detail/texture (same quantiyt, I think - from memory). Overall the K167 is a more revealing, more refined and "polite" phone.

Not so much without an amp, my friend. I would prefer to carry one. The mid bass quantity amped is the same as D2k, PRO900 and M50 amped. Unamped I don't know as I never used those phones unamped :s

D2000 is heavily subbass focused with barely any midbass boost, M50 is somewhat even in midbass vs subbass (bassheavy version), slightly more midbass and less subbass compared to D2000 and PRO900 as well just being a bit stronger in both compared to M50, the PRO900 definitely has the strongest midbass of the bunch and A LOT more than D2000.

The amp gives them the "body" a basshead needs. Thats why I'm totally satisfied with this bass quantity (not to mention the quality which is superb). And the s-master mx amp from the SONY A865 also helps, of course ; )

Well, not sure I'm a bass head, but the reason I purchased the D2000 was mainly because of the bass, with the K167 it's even better, so I'm very satisfied.

And btw, I agree that the K167 needs som burn-in, I just use music, I've had over 50 hours now on it, and the sound has improved, it also plays louder than before, strange....

LOUDER, exactly. Was the most strange thing that has ever happened to me with burn-in. Louder and more bass quantity. I'm glad you confirm that too. And I feel that real music (especially really bassy music), does it faster than noise (white/pink). These drivers need to be exercised, you have to feel them moving/shaking in order to get that result in 50 hours.

I just got these on eBay for $162.03 shipped! Can't wait to get my hands on them... I feel like a kid on Christmas Eve. Damn this forum... within a span of 2 months I already spent $300+ on headphones which may not seem like much to some of you more veteran members but I would never for the life of me think to be able to spent that much on headphones alone.

Haha you're not alone buddy. Bit the bullet on these yesterday as I couldn't resist, even though I just got a pair of 1Rs a couple weeks ago.

Can anyone comment on drum and guitar reproduction? Mainly want to know how the timbre and decay is - always looking for the most natural sound. My reference for timbre accuracy is my HJE900 IEM.

I understand 100%. I'd love to have the abilty to be dropping $500/$600/$1000 on some of these headphones, but 1) my wife would divorce me and 2) my wife would kill me. Not sure which would come first. Its a hobby I'd love to participate more in but as much as I already buy for golf, not sure I can financially support another hobby.

I always look for the best bang for the buck, and I am hoping I found it here. A e11, l9 and K167 all for $245. So far seems good.

Saw someone post that these fit the AKG K550, though they said snugly. Wonder if it will be a less snug (more what I'm looking for) fit for the K167.

Are planning on getting this case? (also these with shipping are slightly cheaper off the slappa website)
