I am soon to get a Gilmore Lite in kit form.
I am using a WAD HD80 with Grado SR80s

I have a pair of Senn280 and 580 (my recent buy ...but wow!)

Would the Gilmore Lite work better with the Senn 580s or with the Grados?

Also, is the Grado easy enough to run directly from a portable cd player or ipod or does it really need a headphone amp.

Reason why I ask is that if I decide to go with the WAD and the Senn 580s I have to rewire the transformers and I only want to do that if I stick with the changes.

Should I have asked this question in the amp forums?

I don't own SR80s but do own HD 580s and SR 225s, and I prefer the 225s, with or without the amp. However, if you listen to jazz or classical, AND you have an amp, you might prefer the 580s.

The Gilmore Lite will work well with the Senns AND the Grados.

The SR80's work well with portable devices without an amp AND they improve nicely with an amp.

From what I've read they'll both work fine straight out of most PADs.
