I ask because no matter how well meaning some folks are, some simply cannot navigate the world without touching, turning, pulling, pushing. Especially Audio gear - see a knob or a switch and...  Further, some aren't even aware of their movements and habits. Be it inside stores or someone's home. I've actually watched

some nervous habits play out in horror.

Some things, like a transformer-coupled vacuum tube amp for example, should not be turned on & off on & off and so on. Because I'm moving shortly and will need a new audio rack anyway...

I want something I can lock yet, pays attention to good sonics.

I rarely have anyone enter my bedroom (where the gear is).... some of my friends don't even know that I own any of that stuff...try to keep it that way.  Even if they did they wouldn't understand its worth and I  could probably blow it off as  though it was the expense of a better than average family entertainment system.

My girlfriend knows exactly what its worth though and she is not too fond of it, neither the money, nor the meticulous awareness that I ask her to have when she's in the bedroom.  Like, she adores my cats (i do too) but I don't let them enter my bedroom.  Sometimes having the system is as much a liability as it is a joy and eventually I will be selling off a good portion of it, but I am waiting to for this review to be complete.  It should be this or next year....then I'll be selling stuff:)

Don't laugh buddy.  You know how hard those cats from Minnesota are, right?  He's probably already driving your way with an ice scraper and a moose antler he's wielding as a club to come rob you.  Better pack it all up and drive down to Texas.  The Bronx is no longer safe.

hahaha!

So the lineup starts now...?

Hi David,
How do manage the interconnect between your dac and several amps?
I am looking for a solution where I can make adjustment by digital or center switch manually with one dac and multiple amps.
Thank you.

Hi:)

Behind my DAC and transport, I have 3 different cable pairings.  One is a XLR balanced pairing, the other 2 pairings are single-ended RCA.

The majority of these amps have a through out and I daisy-chain them this way.  I have never noticed a drop in audio quality by doing this.  For the two amps which do not have a throughout (the TTVJ 307a and Headamp BUDA) I use a passive switchbox.  The one I use was made by Gold Point: http://www.goldpt.com/sw2x.html

Hope this helps!

Need an opinion, I have the HD 650's and I really really like them, but there is one niggling issue I am having with them. Just the fact that they sound like they are playing through pillows, the very laid back sound. I think If there is a headphone out there that sounds like the HD 650, without that filter/lush sound I would be all over it, the tone, everything is perfect but that.

Does something like that exist?

Depends on your budget... LCD-3, LCD-2 (leather or vegan pads), HE-500, K702 65th Anniversary, ...?

I have really been eyeing off the HE-500's, from all reports they are in a different league to the hd 650's?

The majority of people upgrade to LCD-2 or HE-500 from HD650 (if searching for similar sound)... It's almost for sure that you would enjoy both but it is definitely better to do an in-depth research on which one of those two to choose.

Both headphones can be used with two different pads and therefore you practically have four slightly different sound signatures... One of those four is possibly the one you are looking for.
