Nice! The irony is that the Q701 is not included in my review:)  (I know, i know, its supposedly the same as the K701/2) :)

I'm not sure how you mean exactly.  The LCD-3 is not a portable headphone.  It is too heavy, and in need of amplification.  It also would most probably encounter damage if used while on the go, and it is a open back headphone.  The ranking was based purely on my own opinion of its sound quality when paired with my system (and I always went with the best [IMO] pairing that I had)  You can get a lot out of a desktop system however.  If I didn't understand your point, please let me know, I'll be happy to recomment on this.

LOL

@DavidMahler : my 2 cents about the SR507. I have paired it with a SR007t, It tends to be bit cold. It beats the HD800 non amped. When I want to sell it, it was connected to the normal connector, but I have found that it must connected to a pro connector. The difference was immediatly here, more weight and bass slam. For electronic music it is great because it offers a very fast decay with clarity and detail...it is more fun to listen than a HD800 but can be fatiguing for long session and it doesn't provide the HD800's comfort.

Well it's not a fair game because the HD800 is not amped, we will see if my first impression is okay. But I believe that have the same ears and taste because when I read your comparison it's so similar to what I think.

That sounds about right!

Hmm, it was showing different on my iPhone than it does on the computer, weird

Thanks David for this informative, extremely well-organized piece, and sometimes even entertaining piece.

It really is people like you, people who are knowledgeable, articulate, and passionate about the hobby, that makes life so much easier for the rest of us novices.

Can't wait until you expand the list, but I am thinking that you have already done so much, I don't even want to trouble you and ask for specific reviews, I will just wait for your additions as they come.

Dear god, got the K702 65th Annies.

Let me just say these are the most impressive headphones I have ever owned, outside of the D7000. More impressive than the HE-400, HD650, and AKGs own Q701/K701 (which the Annies seriously just made obsolete).

They NEED to be reviewed.

That's awesome! How do you feel they distinguish themselves?  Are the drivers the same?

I really do want to add these.

I will note that I ordered a small headband for my Qualia in hopes that it will drastically improve the sound, in which case I will be entirely revamping my review.

It's been mentioned by AKG that each Anniversary had the drivers retuned, and the new pads are memory foam, as well as not being truly angled. It has a warmer, fuller sound next to the Q701 and MUCH more than the sterile, dry K701 (I had the old 7 bump version).

I hated the K701, liked the Q701 a lot but was missing a bit bottom end and fullness. The K702 Annies is pretty much what I consider borderline PERFECT.

The $400 range has been dealt a huge blow.

Now, that being said, the limited release (apparently only 3000 sold?) and the fact most people won't justify spending $200 more than what they paid for the Q701/standard K702, will make these sleeper hits.

I beg people to try these. They will be surprised.

Yeah i heart they are pretty special. Am really curious seeing a review biggrin.gif and mr. Fang..when do we get the he600 ? biggrin.gif oops

I'm inclined to think that the headband alone is worth the $200 difference...so that's why they didn't fix it with the Q701, well played AKG.

All I can say is WOW after reading all your hard work and dedication to compiling your comparison!  It has helped me to make a purchase of some new cans.  Patiently waiting for my HD 600 to arrive.

Wow the anniversary edition is actually really different?
