4pin XLR but... why? IEM are really really easy to drive so single ended would be more than fine.

You double the noise floor driving IEMs balanced, for that reason alone i would recommend the 1/4" jack

No just IEMs because they are made of unicorn dust... no wait Key is noise floor not THD%.
Sorry if I'm a little dense on this matter, but it seems to me that doubling the noise floor is a bad thing. Do the other advantages of balanced operation outweigh the effects of doubling the noise floor? Thanks for the clarification.

Depends on whether there is a floor to raise to begin with. The Dynalo, the circuit HeadAmp home amps is based on, are super clean. So doubling nothing is still nothing. Balancing a noisy amp... bad.

Dynalo low is very clean, but as Justin indicated, you can hear noise with some sensitive IEMs. I can hear slight noise from both a Gilmore Lite and the GS-1 using Westone ES5. I am expecting that this slight noise will go away with the GS-X balanced, thought I wouldn't bother with the GS-X if it was just to remove that little bit of noise.
