I am enjoying the GS-X mk2 as a preamp. I got a pair of Kef LS50s and so to drive them I ordered an Audio-GD Precision 1 with the option of one set of inputs wired to by bypass the preamp. I am very pleased with the results.

Edit: With so much playing to do with speaker positioning etc., I am posting too early. Going back and forth between high and medium gain; probably do prefer medium. The kit sounds great.

I though running an SE headphone out of the balanced output would damage the headphones. Balanced to SE using an adapter is OK.

Yep, I have the inverse (SE out to balanced phones) adapter but would like to know what difference the balanced output makes on my SE phones without recabling them.
Anyone can confirm this isn't a good idea?

Not sure it matters since the GS-X mk2 will have a plug for whatever connection is on your headphones.  Just plug them directly.  For the sake of your education... you can plug balanced headphones into a single ended socket, you cannot plug single ended headphones into a balanced socket or it will go boom.

I am still waiting but if I am not mistaken the GSX-MkII has Neutrik combo outputs ( 2x 3pin XLR) with each also accepting standard SE 1/4 plugs.

There should be no boom

Thanks, just what I needed to know.

I did buy a balanced Senn cable for my HD650 so I can experiment and hear the difference between one pair of phones at least when used balanced or single ended. I wonder if there will be much of a difference.
