how are they for sound stage? i looked at some revews and saw i had a thought. i might not just want clarity but just the abilaty to have good sounding but the be able to pick out each instrument. i first encounters this with some headphones i cant remember but ever since then i have ben spending mony on £20 headphones and being disappointed so that might be it

Surprisingly good for IEM; crap compared to high-end (>$200) full-size headphones.

Ety's have amazing instrument separation so picking apart instruments is very easy.  However, they have a very "in-your-head" so you'll feel like you're sitting in the middle of a well-defined orchestra.

At that budget, alternatively, the Fischer Audio DBA-02/Brainwavz B2 are also good options for clarity and a decent soundstage.

Are you looking for iem's?

If so then I'd recommend a phonak pfe112 (these can be bought new cheap nowadays) with the grey filters. It's slightly better than the dba02 mkII and a lot better than an entire sack full of other IEM's (in my opinion). I should write a comparison or a biggish review for these iem's as I find them so impressive. Hmm, something to do...

I'd like to add sound stage and instrument separation are different terms (to me at least)... the ER4 is unbeatable for instrument separation. You will hear absolutely everything going on, all at once. No muddiness, fuzz, haze, etc.
