Hi guys,
This thread is so long I've not been able to find the answer to the question I have.
Is it pointless getting an AK100 without it being moded for my JH16 Pros? What issues will the higher impedance cause if any to my iems or what other problems may come about?
I am using a Fiio X3 at the moment and would like to take the next step in my music. I have been considering the ibasso dx100 and the AK100 but the dx100 is just too big to be easily mobile for me ( I have to move alot).
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

If you like how the JH16s sound with the X3, I would definitely recommend a modded AK100 or an external amp (which is probably too bulky if DX100 no good). Stock AK100 will significantly alter the JH16 from their designed sound.
Hey guys would like to say thanks to all who tried to help me with the USB dac problem, turns out my pc had not one but both usb as 3.0 type so... after a few days of worrying it turns out neither usb port works with the dac function (I just keep thinking one of them was a 2.0). lol man I got to get more sleep... not using my brain right

Yeah, USB 3.0 ports are usually backward compatible with USB 2.0 devices, but if your computer is USB 3.0 then ALL the USB ports are 3.0, they don't mix and match 2.0 and 3.0 ports.

I'm curious, does most people who own the ak100 mod theirs? As they are not really a great match with IEMs due to the output impedance, was wondering what are the advantages of owning the ak100 stock has over other similar priced DAPs. Ofc besides their obvious great design/looks and USB DAC function

Well, besides the 22ohm, it sounds very good. Better than fiio x3 imo. It is also built better than any other daps I've seen.I'm curious, does most people who own the ak100 mod theirs? It has a very black clean precise sound, low distortion and crosstalk. And as others have mentioned: excellent build quality and great portability (very small). Hifiman and ibasso are bricks in comparison. Almost everyone comments that it is a lot smaller than they expected - knob included..

AK100 is really a great DAP. I wonder why every one looks down on it(especially X3/DX100 owners
). Unless you are pairing a multi-ba iem, the 22ohm isn't even a issue!

Haha well no one will disagree that the build quality and design is the best out of all. But for most of us using multi ba iems/customs, doesn't the 22ohms affect the sound?
I think most look down at their pricing since most compared the x3 SQ as almost on par with the ak100 but not as refine. And yet the cost is more than 3x cheaper than the ak100.

Well, closer you get to summit-fi, less performance upgrade for money spent. I think performance difference and price difference between X3 and ak100 is fair.Haha well no one will disagree that the build quality and design is the best out of all. Depending on IEM, some dont find it a problem. My Westone 4R and StageDiver 3 works pretty well with the stock AK100.
