SAmsung galaxy note 2

I'll be getting one ASAP.

Wolfson is nice, but implementation probably won't be ideal like in the S3 (output impedance slightly too high for high sensitivity IEMs at ~3ohm, and likely quite high stereo crosstalk), best thing for me about audio is that it *should* support USB audio like the S3.

I should be getting an invite to the launch party a few weeks prior to release here, so will get a chance to put it through it's paces a little ahead of retail release all things going well.

I'll be watching you since you comparison between iPhone and S3 was spot on

My bet would be that it will sound like an S3 which is not bad but it's not great.

I crave for a line out since there are cool amps (ibasso t3) that are smaller than dacs.

I have some slim hope it'll be a bit better implemented here because there is more physical space to let them place it optimally to maximise shielding from the other internals, but I'm not holding my breath. Reason I have this wee ray of hope is that on Supercurio's (unreleased) measurements the Tab 7.0 2 has the best measurements of all their recent devices packing Wolfson's, which I speculate is due to the placement of internals being less constrained (could be utterly bogus thought on my part, is nothing more than speculation after all).

(and before anyone asks: no, I do not have SC's measurements - he just tweeted about it a little while ago)

The Note was certainly better sounding than the S2 (The dac being the same). Hence I hope in the Note 2 is there is a bit better implementarion than in the S3 but the physical space (which is a key issue on crosstalk) did not make anything for the Note crosstalk (compared to the S2). So who knows...

The damn iPhone hits the bullseye on almost every area (output impedance, noise floor, thd, imd, crosstalk and output power)...why Samsung or HTC are never able to get there is hard to believe.

I agree completely.  The DAC chip in the S3 has the potential to be better than it is in practice.  The noise floor compromises the dynamics too much.  The whole presentation lacks some clarity.  On the other hand, getting USB DACs to work can provide uncompromised portable audio.

The thing that disappoints me about the Note 2 is the screen.  It adds nothing over the S3 but size.  At 265 ppi, I'm pretty sure pentile would annoy me.  The original Note had both better pixel density and more width wise resolution.

The Note 2 screen isn't pentile. It's three subpixels per pixel, but with an atypical layout with a larger red subpixel (saves battery, the pentile arrangement in the S3 also has a larger red subpixel). See The Verge for details.

Also really interested in getting the Note 2, but I'm still undecided If I'd use the Note (maybe paired with an amp and/or usb dac if possible?) for music or get a separate mp3 player altogether??

If you're open to the idea of using a USB DAC then having a separate player isn't really required (naturally some pros to having the player separate though).

If this has the USB DAC capabilities of the S3 I'm so getting one. If not, my Galaxy Note OG still serves me well. Slightly reduced resolution width with a 2' larger screen sounds a little puzzling, but if they're getting rid of pentile it can only be a good thing.

Note2>ADL Stride>Starkey SA-43 Portable rig plz.

The Note 1 just came out, didn't it?

Does anyone know how these will be different besides the screen stuff mentioned above?

I couldn't afford the original Note so hopefully it will go down in price.
