wow! so many new close back headphone coming up. These and the Senn Momentum are very interesting. The price is right at $299 now hope for the sound to be good. The Russian article include some FR graph and it look like they address the bass region.

Link? Or was this back on a previous page?

Edit: Nevermind. Found it.

That FR is rather scary actually. Bass looks pretty wonky if those measurements hold true.

Lol this is amusing. A video of the musicians telling the Sony engineer that it needs more low end, using some strange prototype MDR-1R and EQ box

Now it seems a little hard to believe that they could make any more changes to the sound considering they appear to be wearing final production headphones, so the video is strange marketing more than anything else.

at the vid there is no mention of midrange, only bass and treble, so the R1 is very much possible has a v-shaped soundsig. also one of the guys said that it has a sharp treble and the other guy said that it needs more bottom end...

so which is which lol

So if going by the comments by these "professionals" the R1 would be horribly V-shaped and have mediocre soundstage. Yeah. Sony those kinds of videos only works for the masses. Even then that video miight imply that your new product would lack ZOMGBASSEZES.

Ha ha. I'm too lazy to use my brain, so Google here we go!

But from a passthrough, they got the 3 models behind closed doors, there's a bunch of story about how they're not going for the Beats styling (I think), blah blah about iProduct thingies, blah blah angled drivers smth smth measurements. :|

I might go through it once again when I'm less busy.

Well I might just do it like I did with that Russian article on the XB600 and XB900; use as little Google as possible. Besides, this would be good practice since I'm going back to Moscow in less than a week.

The video looks cool, but doesn't really seem promising...it seemed as if the 'professionals' have heard better.
Maybe for the price range of about $299, there are better cans out there...I am considering these MDR-R1 with

Sennheiser Momentum

Sennheiser Amperior

V-Moda M100

Phillips Fidelio L1

Lets see what happens...waiting for a head-fi review of these cans...

IMHO, Sony should probably get some head-fiers and Tyll review their products or include them in the design stage together with the other 'pros'...I think they carry more weight...

Both XB900 and R1 looks interesting to me FR wise, the R1 might have ever so slightly too little bass for my basshead needs while XB900 might have ever so slightly too much, optimally it should be right in-between:

R1:

XB900:

With say +2dB more bass and slightly better extending bass the R1 graph looks quite perfect to me.

Where did you get the graphs? It's good to see what other headphones are measured in the same config, for comparisons' sake.
