Well, they can get loud. I can confirm that they can because I have tried them with multiple DAP sources. Something is up with your situation. But certainly full cans will be fun. Just they typically need an amp to get the most of them.

The R-50 can get loud but it gets so shrilly and ear piercing that it's just very unpleasant to listen to.

Yes I have and I do have good seal with it. I just don't like the sound when it's loud because it's so clear that it sounds to shrilly and ear piercing for my taste. Back to my Skullcandy for loud music.
