Tralucent Audio 1Plus2 IEM (Now With 'New' 1Plus2.2!) Impressions Thread

Nozzle is quite long....hence why they stick out the side of my head like a couple of BT headsets...

I'll take a self portrait later...you can see for yourselves...it's very ungainly and unsightly IMO...the IEMs look kinda funny too

fit: these things are big, huge in fact....not quite sure how i feel about this aspect...they're almost a cross between and headphone and IEM in a strange way....
they stick way out from my outer ear....almost like a couple of big BT receivers...Gavin recommend a shallow depth fit in the canal so i can't see these sitting any more flush...

isolation: i'll have to wait on this until i receive some proper tips and play around a bit...
first impressions, though are that they seem a bit leaky, perhaps due to the vent...how they are now, lots of ambient noise gets by...hopefully this will improve with better sealing...

sonics: they sounded bright, thin, closed in and in-coherent with the stock bi-flange...obviously i didn't not have a proper seal...

I usually find that the Sennheiser bi-flange tips are good to use with these types of earphones (custom cum universal).

On the left side.

If these new 1Plus2s are anything like the older model I'd think they would be closer to the IE80s nozzle. I don't have issues with them sticking out as well. If I want I can have a deep insertion or one where they stick out a little as you had said. Both change the sound quite  a bit. I generally prefer the deeper insertion although the one that sticks out more gives a bigger sound stage & a more neutral sound.

That's good to hear, because I like Westone's super deep insertion and all, but bit skeptical that I might break them

Also I use the same large single flange JVC tips that I used on my IE80s. It has the best sound as well for me. I ordered those from ebay for dirt cheap. I got 8 pairs for like $5.00 shipped. With usage the tips actually wear-in to your ear and will fit even better with usage.

lol even with deep insertion they rest rather flush with my ears. Not like you are gonna have to dig them out of your ear lol. They are pretty big IEMs. But I was told the newer models are slightly smaller .

Lol they really do stick out of your ears. I just put my units next to a quarter and they are a little smaller height-wise but about the same size in width. More so angled though. I guess I must have big ear canals no matter how you put it lol :p

Caveat: Dimitri of MA and Gavin of Tralucent have been most responsive to my concerns and have been working diligently to address them accordingly....

I place my order last week and Voila!, 5 days later Canada Post is at my door...most excitements...!

Open box...no surprises here, everything well packed and in good order....

The items of fascination...

Nice 'n all, but i expected a bit more, actually alot more...no big deal, shiny packaging and display boxes have their place, but i'd rather pay for the actual product...

Quick shot of the 1plus2 burning in on the 160-d....

Initial impressions:

accessories/packaging: below average really....as i mention above, the IEMs, cable, stock bi-flange tips, and otterbox...

build quality: above average, they certain hand made customs, irregularities in acrylic finishing, rough edges, one nozzle screen out of alignment

fit: these things are big, huge in fact....not quite sure how i feel about this aspect...they're almost a cross between and headphone and IEM in a strange way....
they stick way out from my outer ear....almost like a couple of big BT receivers...Gavin recommend a shallow depth fit in the canal so i can't see these sitting any more flush...

isolation: i'll have to wait on this until i receive some proper tips and play around a bit...
first impressions, though are that they seem a bit leaky, perhaps due to the vent...how they are now, lots of ambient noise gets by...hopefully this will improve with better sealing...

sonics: they sounded bright, thin, closed in and in-coherent with the stock bi-flange...obviously i didn't not have a proper seal...

i scoured about and found some suitable tips, not ideal (Gavin is shipping me out several sets)....

i now have a decent seal which i think could be a fair bit better....

so how are they...?

pretty freaking amazing actually, even with only ~10hr on them they certainly are reminiscent of a high end full-size headphone...staging, imaging, timbre all top notch...the low end is a bit puffy and bloated and as noted elsewhere is bleeding upwards a bit, particularly on the 160-d....i a/b with my UM3x and there simply is no comparison....completely different level...like comparing the westone to stock apple earbud....the difference is just stupid....!!!

overall, a bit of a let down...but i'm still holding out hope that i can get the seal and fit dialed in and with that the corresponding improvements in presentation....

Thanks again to Dimitri and Gavin stepping up and being receptive to my concerns.....!!!

more to come....

btw: without knowing the serial numbers on the silver ones pictured a few pages back i cannot be sure but i'm fairly certain the ones shipped to me are the identical pair...
the go dap x sound very nice as well...tiny bit bass shy, however after several hours it started misbehaving with random static pops and clicks...probably a bad ground on the board....back it goes to JPN for warranty replacement

wow i'm actually impressed with your impression, hoping you contribute a full review for this new CIEM. Btw how would compare it other top end CIEM on market right now? could you use a single term to describe its signature (warm, neutral...etc)? Thanks

I'll attempt to update my impressions are the 1+2 continue to improve and evolve...right now I've only got <20 hrs in...

Even with a less than ideal seal, I find them very balanced, extremely resolving but not grainy or crass....subtle things like picks on strings, vocalist opening their mouth before singing a verse, lovely harmonics on an upright bass for example...

I'm really enjoying the bass response of the dynamic driver....fast, authoritative, powerful.....imaging is very good although I'm struggling with the soundstage...it seems still very much 'in-the-head'...hopefully that will improve with better tips...

My initial impressions around packaging and fit have tempered....i think i might have a handle on what Tralucent's goal was/is....no compromise design and technical implementation with the simple goal of developing the finest universal CIEM available....time will tell if they hit their mark...

Aww so you are warming up to them . Keep us updated as they change. I am very much looking forward to receiving my updated pair as well :).

You got it right on your last point. That is their goal. To make the very best Universal-Custom IEM available. I am extremely excited to hear this for myself as well :).

hard not too really...i'm just stopped looking at myself with them on lol....

demos...? or did you spring for the v2...?

Option 2 , the early adopters get the option to trade up :). I know that they were developing a smaller shell to accommodate the Japanese market unless you have the smaller shell :p.
