Back on the 2.2 this evening after a lovely dinner with a very good friend. Simple pleasures we are blessed by...

Listening to some Mandopop off my NAS streaming as WAV 24 bits using Minimstreamer, to my AK240 using AK Connect. Very enjoyable musical presentation. One interesting observation is that when I was listening earlier today on the Plus5, the volume was at 65-75. On the 2.2, I've had to adjust to set it at 75-85.

The other observation is the current listening reaffirms my initial impression that the vocals were enthralling and the timbre of strings excellent. Bliss... :)

Would be good if 1Plus2.2 had its own thread, maybe?

I don't know, it just seems a waste of potential exposure for a new product in an old product thread.

The beauty of this gem is it is truthful to the source. With good recording, your ear will very well rewarded :)

Well said, Sabre2! With the recording of some of the mainland Chinese albums, the details you get is incredible as well as the soundstage, depth and width. :)

Speaking of well recorded albums, have a listen to Damien Rice's "O" album. The track "Volcano" is a wonderfully recorded track and it contains all the elements for you to be gobsmacked by your IEMs. :)

You are most welcome, Sabre2. :) I've also set down some test tracks I used in assessing the Plus5 prototype in the beginning of the thread. :yum:

I am not quite sure who has the 2.2 now. I only know Sabre2 and Semuapunmau. But if you still have the AK100, which still holds a special place in my heart because of its raw emotiveness and its pure sonic signature, you may want to plug in the 2.2 for a listen.

Usually for IEMs, I listen at 42.5 but for the 2.2 I found myself at 50. Anyway, it was a surprisingly pleasing combination. The timbre of strings and vocals were really spine tingling. Have a listen and see what you think. :)

On a side note I've really been getting back into the original 1Plus2 today.

I connected them to Tralucent DacAmp One and basically blew my mind with clarity overload which they happily catered to, I was just staring at the wall laughing with a grin on my face while they didn't distort or cave in any way to the brutal session I was handing them, (of course sensibly)

Sometimes even almost a year after buying them I occasionally give 1Plus2 a workout at louder volumes then walk away mesmerised for about 20 minutes after, kind of happily shell-shocked. I guess similar to leaving a loud live concert (pretty much)

These are things 1Plus2.2 needs to compete with...

Heheh! Good workout, H20! Detrozer heard the 2.2 for the first time today. He'll have something to say, I'm sure, about the portrayal of vocals on the 2.2....

I told Gavin I don't think its possible to upgrade the original (for my preferences). Or at least, 2.0 will be combed over finely for my approval.

We will see...

I know the obvious area people would want improvement is the handling of vocal sibilance, this I understand.

For my setup/source its a non-issue with 1Plus2.
