what would be some good portable high end headphones? ie 800? do u need an amp with that?

What's your definition of portable?  Is it for your commute, or at your desk at work, or around the house?  Does outside noise come into play, or is it a concern to not create noise in a quiet environment?

For on Ears, use the Beyer 1350, Senn Amperior, and less often the On1 or ML Mikros 90. If you don't need isolation, I like the Philips Fideleo S2 (good for biking, open, like to be able to hear traffic and other things outside while I bike), or the Audeo PFE 232 (sometimes comes up on sale, lists about $600, when it goes on sale for half price think it is a great buy. The little brother, 132, is also really nice and much cheaper). In buds I like the VE Zen.

also i do alot of traveling and was wondering what kind of amps would i need to amke sure i can get full or somewhat close to best experience on hd 800.

As others have said: the HD800 isn't the easiest pair of headphones to travel with. While on the move I would stick with IEM because they are much more compact and block noise.  If travel = using headphones in quiet destinations, then transporting the HD800 in a Pelican case  and pulling them out at your destination, they may be your best option. They are certainly easier to travel with than a pair of Stax.

As to amplifiers... my favorite stand alone portale amp for them is Headamp's Pico Power.  The best portable DAC/Amp for them I have heard is the over priced is the Chord Hugo.  The Centerence HiFi-M8 holds the HD800 back, but is still enjoyable to use.  there are a few other portable DAC/amps worth looking at which I listed on  my stereo web page.

Have the ALO National, like it a lot. And for outside and inside portable use, my Pono is the best imo. For PC, have Geek Out Special Edition and CEntrance M8 GO SE MUCH better sounding and behaved better in my system (though it misbehave in some ways as well). Also have a Denon DS-10, which works well for i devices, though it is better in the DA converter than the amp part...you can separate them all out if you wish.

I bough a really small 12V 3A (36W) power source:

http://www.amazon.de/gp/aw/d/B00JINQPJA/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1442092198&sr=8-1&pi=SY200_QL40&keywords=netzteil+12v+3a&dpPl=1&dpID=415501gkiRL&ref=plSrch

And this one (12V, 4A, 48W) because it comes with a nice soft bag, and much smaller plug:

http://www.amazon.de/gp/aw/d/B001W3UYLY/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?qid=1442092312&sr=8-3&pi=SY200_QL40&keywords=netzteil+12v+3a&dpPl=1&dpID=51VvsCXwoKL&ref=plSrch

Both charge the Hifi-M8 and an iPad simultaneously, while playing music as well.

24watts.. The stock charger is around 50watts. Would the one you linked be powerful enough to charge while being used and maintain a charge?

This is one that someone else recommended a couple of years back, maybe in this thread or another. I haven't tried it. So I sent an email to Michael about it.

I just bought another HiFi-M8 at RMAF CanJam for my son's Christmas present, as I know he really wants one.

It's this one, rebranded.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00LNSHHUO/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?qid=1444078960&sr=8-5&pi=AC_SX110_SY165_QL70&keywords=3a+12v+wall+charger&dpPl=1&dpID=41y-nCo%2BXmL&ref=plSrch

36W is enough for everything.

I just want to confirm, which is the best one to buy on Amazon? There has been talk of a few different ones.

Just read this post, and the included link to the explanation about the power switching, it's actually a really clever power system they built!
http://www.head-fi.org/t/622939/the-centrance-hifi-m8-thread/3720#post_9890349

In short, you need a minimum of around 30 Watts (20 Watts theoretically, but accounting for efficiency losses, 30+ is better) to supply everything. Voltage input is accepted from 9V to 20V. So at 12V and 3A you get 36 Watts, more than enough.

Just search around any shop for anything 12V with upwards from 3 amps. There's many! They should have the broadly accepted standard plug of 5.5mm outer diameter, 2.5mm inner diameter, center pole should be positive. But they pretty much all have that plug. And 12V is also very easy to find.

So:
12 volts DC
3 amps
5.5/2.5 plug center positive
Ready to go!
