Please post more impressions of the Sennheiser HD-595 & Beyer DT-440 after 50+ hours of burn-in! Thanks...

Ack!

Will take a while, though (desired audio rack isn't here yet, so I'm limited to the portable chain => quite a few charging pauses...).

While we're asking Lini to answer specific questions, I've got something I've been wondering about.

Since you're the expert on the DT531 and K240S, how would you rate them (on a scale of 10, or 5, or whatever) in these categories?

-resolution/detail
-soundstage
-bass response
-efficiency
-comfort
-isolation
-durability

Basically, I want to know how they compare in each of those categories so I can judge which one I would like better.

Factor: I'll rather use words, instead - for a scale one would probably need clearer defined reference points... Of course, the verbal description also reflects my listening experience over more than just these two headphones, but it seems more appropriate, nevertheless...

Let's see...

DT531 / K240S

-resolution/detail: ok (somewhat recessed in the midrange, though) / quite fine

-soundstage: medium (quite nice) / small (fairly intimate, though - and squishy, when not driven well)

-bass response: good (fairly extended and punchy) / fine (probably on the border to overdone for some, though... and either too fat or recessed, when not driven well)

-efficiency: ok (amp recommended, but also works fairly well with integrated amps et cetera)/ ok (low impedance output amp strongly recommended - doesn't need too much juice, though)

-comfort: fine (light & plush) / fine (featherlight, but not really good for hot environments due to the pleather pads)

-isolation: poor (maybe 2 dB or so...) / poor (maybe 3 dB or so...)

-durability: Dunno - fairly resistant to that heavy smoking & cable rolling of mine, though. Otherwise I don't really stress my headphones very much, though, so I really can't tell...

Just wanted to state that I agree with all of lini's comments regarding the 240S... especially his comments on unamped/poorly amped use, since that's how I'm driving them right now. Hopefully they'll improve in the same ways that he described.

ReDVsion: Yup, you'll need an amp...

Whereas the DT440 should be a nice Groovalizer for direct soundcard use...

Well hell, I'm running the DT880s unamped right now. If that isn't an unforgivable sin on this forum, I don't know what is

.

Fortunately it doesn't stop me from enjoying them. But yeah, what I've got at this point demands a little more driving power... or a lot. Just holding out for the right amp at the right price.
