As for the PX200s and portability, they fold up into a tiny little shape, and go into a little pocket sized case in the event that you need a little protection.

And yes, I do love Elliot Smith. Shame what happened. Has anyone figured out what the ***** it was yet?

If the usage on airplane has the priority, you should consider Shure E2 at least. PX200 doesn't block much of the jet sound unless you push them against your ears, or you are one of the lucky people who have ear lobes PX200 fits very well.

I never had problem driving E2 by portables.

As someone asked, the EX71's (white) are ideal, I think, if you do want some isolation from a bud. Although the output specs say a mere 100 dB/1 mW, they are much louder than the MDR-E888's which claim 108 dB. Soundwise, they're very decent for rock/dance/techno but don't have the detail that you'd need for classical/vocal/jazz styles. They fit very nicely and are comfortable.

Cheers.

I took a look at the Sure E2's and I really like the noise isolation feature. I don't have any idea how efficient they are though (anyone have experience with them?), and they are a little over-budget for me.

So it seems it's between the Sure's and the Senn's. I'll wait until I receive the player to try out the Senn's. If I'm disappointed I'll wait and save up for the Sure's.

I think my major concern is that the 5mw/channel would not be enough to drive a good sounding pair of portables to be loud enough for plain/train/busy areas. If anyone has a 5mW unit can they shed some light on this? I think some of you have IRiver's with 7mW/channel output...how does it sound on your headphones when it's just above half way (and what headphones are you using?)

Tried E2(32ohm) and PXC250(300ohm) on portable CD player with 6mW+6mW@16ohm(CT710).
Note: this "6mW" doesn't have be 1.2 times higher than your "5mW", since they are all what they are claiming.

E2 had good listening level volume in the quiet room at 10(full volume is 25), I am pretty sure I don't need more than 15/25 even in a noisy environment, 25/25 doesn't blow out drivers or my ear but close to unbearable.

PXC250 needed 15/25 to be at normal listening level in the room, 25/25 is more than loud enough.
