my Omega II thoughts......

on my upcoming rehearsal sessions of my band I will just try to focus on the sound (on several studios) of the bass guitar and the bass drums. Ill try to report how that sounds to me regarding the slam matter. From my past experience I dont remember much slam. But the recording ought to sound different from the studio right?

I cant think of many other genres besides rock and electronic music where slam is indeed there when its being played live.

I'll try to see what I hear next time in the studios and report.

Snake,

Wow, very insightful and informative post! Very well said. I too find that the Stax do exactly what you said. I never paid it much mind before, but when I read your post it reminded me of what I experience with my cans. Using a super bass heavy recording like Bass Mekaniks Quad Maximus these things have so much bass my wife had to take them off. It literally slammed your ear drums with some bass down around 30Hz, and it did so with such authority it was painful. OTOH, some songs it just seems like the bass is too light. The fix for me is to make sure the seal of the earpieces is broken. This turns the sealed enclosure into a vented one, and the bass picks up quite a bit with no other detriment. No loss of details, no soundstage changes, nothing. Just more bass.

I think your post clarified some myths and solidified, at least in my mind, that the Stax are giving a truer account of what the recording has to offer. Thanks again.

I think I will have to check them out. Actually they are electrets.

I wish I would have seen the ones for sale in the forum... I probably would have snatched them up... they are electrets? so does that require an electrostatic amp? or can they be driven by a normal headphone amp?
