Your descriptions of the PF IX are spot-on. I don't have the time or verbal ability to express my listening experiences as well as you have but I will try and sum up.
Regarding those that have called the pfix 'crap', I can only empathize as the first time I plugged mine in and listened, I thought, "Omg, I just wasted a s***load of money".
However, I listened a few more times, and the more I listened, the more I liked.
Following prolonged listening, I have come to love the PF IX's. And going back to other IEM's and conventional headphones is difficult. The PF's sound so lifelike that I find myself listening to my loudspeakers, or the PF's.
Ian, I have read your subsequent post and you really have a point. I am a bass-head, yet my favorite headphone is now the PF IX. Maybe that means I am no longer a bass-head and just enjoy the music.
One criticism, if you can call it that, is that when the recording is compressed, the PF IX's really let you know. Otoh, when the recording isn't compressed...awesomeness.
