PF IX + David Sylvian's "When Poets Dreamed Of Angels" = :)

I agree. That may have been the best thing I heard on the PF VIII. And just in general.

Yes.

I have enjoyed the Van Halen high res set from HDTracks on these phones. Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds Live at Radio City is sublime with them. There are also several other links scattered throughout this thread that are good. Those are just a few that come to mind. I probably wouldn't have this phone as my only phone if you are primarily into rock, however.

PF IX (and TG334) is on its way to me. :). Can't wait!

*hopefully I can appreciate its strengths. I listen to pretty badly mastered stuff, but I seem to have steel ears, so hopefully it won't bother me too much.

But if you have steel ears the PFIX will go cling cling when you put them on.

I thought you said you'd ordered the 1601SS not 1602SS (aka PF IX). Both 160X models are very forgiving of poorly mastered material. It's the FI-BA-SS which can be very revealing, so you should be okay. Prepare yourself for a sonic shock, though... maybe.

I found the X-G i have to not be forgiving of badly mastered/low bit rate. It sounds awful, also i use them with an O2 amp and do not find them bright at all. Review is almost complete.

Yea, apparently it sold out before my friend could get it. So I got the more expensive 1602 :D
