Re-inserting a strain relief? | Headphone Reviews and Discussion - Head-Fi.org

I have a pair of Audio Technica M-50's and the cable strain relief spring has been pulled out of the end of the plug. It now just slides up and down the cable serving no useful purpose. The spring is larger at the plug end (precisely to stop this happening) and so there is no obvious easy way of re-inserting it.
Has anyone managed to squeeze one of these back into a plug before? Any hints and tips much appreciated.

Can you open up the ear cup to put it back in? You might have to lube it up and push.

I've had this issue before, since it's a spring, just separate the end of the spring from the rest of the spring(like when you put a key on a key ring), then screw it into the connector.
