Another crazy deal on the HD700

Comes out to be around $480 shipped new from amazon, perhaps even lower with the euro exchange rate.

Hi my name is Michael I am interested in buying some good headphones, I have looked at many different brands but I'll use listen to my iPhone so I had to discard several options as sennheiser HD 650 and several of this range for what i want've seen many forums aimed at the sennheiser momentum ivory 2 wireless but really the style I do not like it I have 20 years and I listen to music whit bass or moved ( salsa, reggae, rap, electronic) and only sometimes a little ballad or songs with more acute, I wonder if I can advise some not matter much the price I liked quite the B&O H8 and also pleasing me sennheiser Urbanite XL wireless and ATH - m50x or I can use the sennheiser HD Dj8 have tod me they are very good but I don't know so much potential can them on a iPhone or Mac whit advise me or if any better have good bass and clear sound for music I listen ? Thank you very much

I have the Sennheiser Urbanite XLs.  They do benefit from amping.  Listening straight out of my Ipod Touch 5G, it lacks the energy, a little more restrained on the top and the bass gets a little loose or perhaps muffled.

Connecting the Urbanites to my Ipod Classic 160GB -> CLAS SOLO -> ALO National, the highs seem to come back in balance.  The highs seem a little recessed out of the Ipod Touch.  The bass has more impact and are more crisp.  It sounds almost like a veil has been removed.

Perhaps I am not giving enough credit to the SOLO, but I don't use LODs on my Ipods anymore.

This is my impression when I listen to electronic music.

If you listen to mainly classical, HD800 all the way: the soundstage is worth the price of admission. If you listen to a wide range of music, I reckon the HD700 is the way to go: its detail, while downgraded from the HD800, is sufficient for most purposes while insufficient enough to make more mediocre recordings absolutely dreadful.

On the plus side, 3 weeks in. I actually miss the hot treble when using other headphones.

My HD700s will be arriving next week but I total agreement on the HD800s.  The incredible soundstage of the HD800s make classical and jazz sound almost speaker like.  If you are looking for more of an all around headphone, I would suggest you also demo the HE-560s.

In my opinion, it's also the greatest downfall of the HD800's: songs that don't require (or are hindered by) an accentuated soundstage will sound very awkward with it. That being said, it's not bad for those types of songs, just where it doesn't shine the brightest.

I tried the HE-560's, and while they're amazing (though a bit boring if you don't EQ them), the cheapest I could get them is more than twice for what I got my HD700's for, and that's not a really reasonable deal for me. Also, the comfort: it's hard to get used to anything else once you're spoiled by the HD700/HD800 comfort, no matter the sound.

The change of Op-amps in my X7 (from LME49710 to Opa 827) has finally given more body to base and low-mids and made me get rid of the equalization I was using. I'm finally happy with the HD700 :)

Try the ADA4627, I prefer it to the OPA827 (albeit in a different amp but worth a try - available as free samples)

Can't find it easily in Dip-8 in UK.

Will have mine by tomorrow.

I'm not sure how I'll like them but let's see. Given I currently use HD 650 and HD 598

the HD-700 will sound very different from your HD-650 and HD-598, also it will make a difference what amp you use with it.  I use a Project Ember while my girlfriend likes the Teac AH-01, for her any other amp makes the HD-700 too bright.

Agree on 650, disagree on 598. Sounds pretty much like a 598 except with a somewhat hotter treble and much better detail and soundstage.
