Yes and no. Yes when you get the right tubes. Tubes are the magic and the detriment with the Lyr. Of the 8 sets of tubes that I had, only one set, Amperex Orange Globes (do some research, there are all kinds of OG's).  The remainder ranged from OK to unlistenable. The HD700/HD800 were the lease forgiving with tubes.  It's a real gamble with the Lyr and tubes but when you hit it right, WOW!

Mhm I see, I did a quick search and indeed there are different types of OG tubes, I am wondering if you can tell me which one did you find the most pleasing with HD700? or did you test out the exact same ones and found a pair that were good?

I absolutely adore the sound of HD700, if I can take a touch of the HD700 highs(I guess my ears are very sensitive), it will be the perfect headphones, at least for me at this stage :p

I will say that I'm glad I bought a pair of OGs right with my Lyr purchase. Through this, I discovered very quickly how much tubes make a difference and just how bad the stock Lyr tubes are.

Would you be able to provide me with some insights of which OG tubes is good for HD700?

I'm way newb understanding the differences yet. I just understand that my ear way prefer the OGs that I bought. They were referred to me by someone here. Check out the link.

Thanks so much! :D I am currently using Crack+Modi and trying to find the best tube.
Maybe when I upgrade to Lyc/Bifrost combo I'll definitely buy a set of that!!
Also, Lyr is not a OTL amp right? Meaning it will work with headphones that have low impedance?

PDRM360 I appreciate your input please enlighten me on the difference you get from both, please.

The below is almost my story too (except the Toronto HeadFi meet).  MickeyVee's preference is very close to mine and his advices has always been useful for me.
Just want to add if upgrading from HD598 to the HD700 is worth for you, upgrading from HD700 to the HD800 will be worth too.
Just another view of the HD700, HE500 and HD800 journey.
I thought I was pretty much done when I had the HD700 and then acquired the HE500.  I spent a lot of time with tubes perfecting my HD700 system and found the magic with the Bifrost Uber/Lyr with Amperex Orange Globes.  Enough so that I tracked down another par of OG's but they were not the same signature.  I really loved the combo.  Thought I needed another HP so I got the HE500.  Bad move on my part.  No matter how much I wanted to really like the HE500 and after tons of break in, the HD700 was getting 95% of my head time.  Deeper and more extended bass, better mids and nice sparkling highs without the harshness. The OG's I had did the trick.

I tried the HD800 on may occasions and they were not for me.. until at the last Toronto HeadFi meet when I got a change to try the HD800 on my particular setup.  The step up was as much the difference between the HE500 to HD700.. again, deeper and tighter bass, liquid mids that were to die for and a smooth extended treble with tons of air and space.  Everything from Sinatra, Patricia Barber, Enigma to Lindsey Stirling and Deadmou5 was that much better.  My HD700 and HE500 went up for sale the next day to fund the HD800. (I also really, really liked the HE6 but that was another story)

I'm thrilled with the HD800 and like Sonido, I'm working on that magic combo to take the HD800 to another level.
I've said it many times before.. I should have stopped with the HD700 and my magic BF/Lyr/OG combo.. but then there's HeadFi

Just my story, YMMV.

According to Jude, the Raptor with the HD800 is glorious with the right tubes.  BTW - based on my humble experiences, anything that can drive and make the HD800 sound magical will also do the same for the HD700.

On my Tube amp list of interest are: Woo WA2, WA22, Fosgate Signature Headphone Amp, The Raptor and maybe the Woo WA7 (again).
Right now, I'm having too much fun with the Naim DAC-V1 and Audirvana+ (especially side I've found the built in EQ - now that's EQ done right - another story)

Did I get it right that the RSA Raptor with the PSU is 1200 bucks? OTL design right? so no orthos I guess...
personally for now i love my dynamics. the hd700 does exactly what I need from a hp for my better recordings.
These being classical, but also processed on computer with added instrumentation...so the hd800 is a bit too brutal tbh.

is 650$ for the hd 700s worth picking up? there are a few on ebay at this price and its pretty tempting to check out.

if i do pick these up, would a dac/amp of the schiit magni/modi be enough to run these phones well enough, i dont want to spend even more on dac/amp on an already pretty expensive headphones.

I believe you can still pick up the HD700's new from razordogaudio.com for $649. I'd give them a look first. I bought mine through razordog as well as a couple other items and had a very good experience. I always feel a bit safer going through an established retailer than through eBay if I can. Just a thought...

Also, I run mine through a Modi/O2 stack and I really like the sound fwiw.

Got it from the same guy. Brain is awesome! Helped me out a lot with questions and fast shipping. I always buy from him if the price is about the same...A++ (Y)
