Can anyone who owns or has heard the HD650 extensively comment on how they compare to the HD700? I want to eventually get something similar to the HD650, but taking the speed, detail, and treble energy up a notch, and hopefully tightening up the bass without losing quantity. Could I expect something like this from the HD700?

IMHO, The HD700 could be an upgrade from HD650 but they don’t have the sound signature of HD650s.

Take the black foam from behind the earpads out of the HD650's and try some Nylon stocking material in it's place - up to 5 layers according to taste.
 
Better alternative is to get a ZU Mobius silver cable. I believe J-Pak has one for sale in the For Sale forums.

Don't suppose anyone know if it's possible to do anything with the sibilance? Like toning it down or something with some sort of dac/amp combo? Had them for about a year now, and still super happy with them, but the sibilance problem has always bothered me a bit, not a big deal, but if it's possible do something about, i would really like to give it a try.

I'm pretty sensitive to sibilance and I experienced some of it with my HD700s coupled with Asgard, especially on some bright tracks, of recent pop production.
Now that I matched my Senn with a warmer amp, the WA2, I do not hear sibilance anymore. In addition my cans have also lost any emphasis on cymbals and any hint of metallic, thin sound on voices.

Wow I actually like the sound better simply without the foam at all...suppose the drivers are exposed now though...nylon sounds like a good idea. Thanks!

I had a pair of 650 and really enjoyed them. Got a silver cable and enjoyed them even more. Great cans. Got my HD700 and never listened to them again. The signature is definitely different, and I'd say that the 700 improve upon the 650 in every way. You should listen to them first as there is a huge price difference, but it was a total upgrade for me.

I ended up trading my 650 for a UE900 which turned out to be great, too.

I'd definitely try a silver cable if you can, if nothing else. Really opened up the top end and helped balance mine a lot.

First post, I have been reading Head-fi for a while now, help me to decide which IEM and amp bought when I decided to go for it.
Now I just want to give my personal comment on the HD 700
 
Well coming back to last week , I woke up and did not loud "eureka" , but more like " Seinnheiser"...
So I was going to the shop to test some headphone, from HD650 to HD800.
 
I currenly own an Alo Rx Mark II ( mark III went out 1 week after bought mine DAMN IT ! ) + Ipod Classic.
I m more like a nomad guy , I don t see myslef investing in big amp and so on, hence staying at a portable rig.
 
Finally I end up with the HD700 ... end I m not disapointed . At first I looked at the HD800 , but I found them too big and buying them will force me to upgrade my rig quicker than expected.
For my current use , the HD700 is already much more than enough. The sound is great, I had some incredible listening session of classical music : you close the eye , you want to touch the orchestra .
 
The fact is , I did not look at the price/performance ratio . I loved the style of the HD700, subjectively love the sound from it ( bright and nice), and it s enough comfy for my daugther of 4 1/2 year old to wear it and not fall down on the floor ( you should have seen her smile listening Moby and the Christmas concerto of Corelly  ... this as no cost at all )
 
 
 
 
Coming back to the topic,   I would like to ask :
    - I found the cable a little too long , so I m looking for a customs cable ( Silver one) . Which one will you propose?
 
    - having the Alo Mark II now, my plan was to go to invest in the CypherLab . But , just notice the new Theorem 720.
For the same amount of cash ( since if I bought the Cypher lab, need to buy the cable as well) , it s better to go to the theorem or the cypher lab?

The HD700 has a tighter bass, better instrument separation and wider sound stage, while not going into micro-detail madness like the T1.  Overall, if you like the 600/650 cans, but are looking for more space between the instruments and better bass control then the HD700 is probably the way to go. 
 
The HD700 can be too bright for many (myself included at times), but I find your basic tube amp really takes the edge off.

New HD700 owner here. Have HD600s but auditioned 700 and 800 a few weeks ago and since wanting to drive from a portable DAP, the 700 was clearly the way to go of this pair. Anyhow, ordered mine on Monday and they arrived today.

Been listening to a mix of Classical (Beethoven Piano Concerto No.4), a bit of Pink Floyd and Dire Straits, Dave Brubeck's Time Out in 24/176 and currently, one of Diana Krall's smooth albums for the past few hours running straight from my iBasso DX100. All I can say, is these are so sweet and sublime. While not as neutral as my HD600s, they are so nicely balanced with just the right level across the range. Not noticed the reported dip in the upper mid/treble I read about somewhere.

Not going to review any further; there's enough already said but did want post my early impressions. Think I might have found my sweet spot for performance vs price at last.

Anyone else have headband tightness problems with these?  I usually stretch the headband a bit once it begins to bother me, but they seem to have this amazing ability to flex back to their original size after 15 minutes.  It's like it has spring steel in the headband.
