JVC's Micro HD Line: HA-FXD80/70/60

I keep inserting these IEM's normally, then I remember to insert them ETYMOTIC style, OVER-EAR and DEEP insertion, get that driver into your canal !
 

 
 
Imho this is the holy prevalence in these IEM's, the deep-driver insertion with excellent black levels, holography and imaging.
 
They still sound good with a 'lazy' insertion, it's just with a deep insertion the intimacy and treble improves a lot.
 
(make sure the tips are clean and you don't have a wax block)

kiteki I've been waiting for you to come around, and yes, that explains everything. These need a good deep insertion. Use the various size tips to get the best insertion. These belie their cost. As a universal, it's are up there with the ASG-1.2 and W4 (two of my favorite universals). Just outstanding! And if you want one that tends to favor the treble side more, the FXD70 is the one for you (especially with great burn-in).

You know guys (and girls) I was expecting the D80 to be good for some reason (and to wow me). Yet, the biggest surprise - with significant burn in - is the D70. This is why I keep writing about them. Again, as I stated the earlier, I think all the the new JVC carbon nanatubes IEMs are bass-centric (not bassheads levels unless you get the FX40 and the XX series), but the most neutral, balanced and less bass on them all (that I've heard) is the D70, But what JVC took from the bass it tuned the hell out of in the treble. Let me just say before I continue that the mids are there and forward enough me on all, so I'm not concentrating on the mids at all right now. 
 
With the D70's focus on the treble (and I'm not a huge fan of treble), JVC has given us a dynamic IEM that is one of the most clear, transparent and detailed dynamic drivers I've ever heard. Yes, the D80 is my favorite of the JVCs, but the D70 is so close to it overall, and in some ways tied to it. 
 
So I just did a quick A/B with my returned FXT90 and the D70. I wanted to make sure that my ears (and mind aren't playing tricks on me). I just listened to one song, Prince's "Private Joy." There are some high-note guitar licks that Prince is playing in that song that I can't even here in the FXT90, but I hear clear as a bell (and in glorious detail) with the D70. The FXT90, of course, wins in bass, soundstage (a bit) and in a layering that I only to to hear in dual driver dynamics or dual hybrid drivers. But the D70 dust the FXT90 in overall sound, and I never would have expected. Kudos to JVC for an outstanding offerings in the HD series. My ears are simply amazed!!

I'd agree with the treble on the 70's and I'm not a big fan of treble.  I still get some "sss" on mine but it's the least used of the 3 FXD series.  I find the 70's to be the most intimate and neutral of the 3 (pertaining to the nanotubes anyway).  You are spot on ericp10.  I've been focusing on the 70 more the past few days since you've been posting about them and I agree with your assessment.  The FXD's and S500's are amongst my favorite universals and can I've ever heard.  They combine the clarity, good balance across the spectrum with a kick ***** fun factor to them that's undeniable.

I think even if I had the ATH-CKW1000ANV I'd still appreciate the unique colours and reflective angles in this gemstone.
 
I'm a little skeptical of the FXD70 since it's not vented, but more mids, less / tighter bass and less internals sound welcoming, for only ~$60 we should recommend it to more head-fiers.
 
I wonder if anyone could open up the FXD80 and remove the yellow filter like I did on the FX500?  I tried to take off the shower-head part and stabbed myself in the finger with a tweezer.

How does the FXD70 isolate in relation to a EPH-100/Etymotic? Does it have any harshness / fatigue like a EX1000? How much impact does the bass have in relation to a neutral balanced armature? How does it respond to EQ?
