NEW! Pioneer SE-MJ751 Bass Head headphones unboxing & impressions (updated)

So I had some ear time with these.  I really like the sound.  Unlike Beats Solo, these doesn't sound over EQ at all.  The bass is punchy and the highs are smooth, not bright at all.  I do want a bit more sparkle, but that's just me.  Even with the Bass knob all the way up it did not distort.  The Bass control is not overly crazy change in sound signature.  It's just a good amount of sub bass boost.  Playing Deamau5 it does a good job being fun.  It can get too loud without any hint of distortion so be very careful with your hearing.  The on ear factory is actually ok.  It isolates outside noise good, but not as good as Beats Solo.  Overall, these are much better than the Beats Solo, but not as good as the Sony XB-700.

If a dual driver phone doesn't sound better than the XB700 (which sound pretty muddy to me), I don't know what does. It's really hard to believe. But something tells me that treble sparkle/detail can improve substancially with some mod as happened to my other headphones. What about giving the $49 one from ebay a try? Waiting for seller's response about how is that price difference possible ; )

There are two versions.  The SE-MJ721 (no bass dial) @ $49 USD & the SE-MJ751 (with bass dial) @ $109 USD

Oh...! And can you know if both are dual driver? Because if I'm gonna pay 50€ for the knob, I can live without it.

EDIT: just saw now that they are 40mm (single driver). I'm interested on the dual driver, so MJ751. Wish I could get them from Nederlands for 89€...

Exactly  what i was thinking the xb700 isn't that good at all mids and highs are indeed muddy and even the bass is way too layback, for like deep-house it's good but other genres not so after the ath-ws55 i hardly listen to the xb700

Oh my friend, that would be awesome! I will PM you. Thanks a ton : )

EDIT: I'm pretty sure they will improve alot with modding as happened to the Numark Red Waves. They were muddy before the mod, now they are outstanding, I was able to get much better treble and clarity/transparency. I'm sure a dual driver headphone has alot of potential in there.

Hey, thanks, bro. :)

So the XB700 is still bassier than the Pioneers at full bass level?

How is the comfort on these cans? Do they exert a lot of pressure on the ears?

I don't feel it as much as I have a relatively slim head, but I can see how it it might be kind of tight for some people.  However, the pads are relatively plushy so that should make up for some of that tightness.  For me it winds up being a nice and snug fit, particularly when I'm out and about.

The pads makes a world of difference.  I changed it with my other Pioneer pads and it sounded like crap.  Unfortunately the stock pads are the only ones that makes it sing.

Hmm, makes you wonder what the 721s would sound like with 751 pads doesn't it?
