Recently the right driver in my HD-600s started rattling when playing back bass sounds. It also has a slightly lower volume. I switched the cables and reversed the inputs to my amp to see if the problem was somewhere else. No luck...

So I'll sent them back to the dealer which will send them to Sennheiser for repair. He told me I'll have them back in ~14 days. All still under warranty, they are like 1.5 years old.

Anybody sent anything to Sennheiser for repair before ? How long did it take ?

I hope it's fast. I was just listening to my HD-570s backup cans, and they sound absolutely horrible compared to the 600s ;-( Makes me want to buy the 650s... must... resist...

Man, I JUST noticed that the left bass on my HD-590s tends to rattle slightly. I thought it was maybe the particular song (the intro to the song Lateralus by Tool), so I switched channels in soundforge and it still affects the same side. I switched outputs on my sound card, still same.

I never noticed this before, and it's only very slight (and it seems only noticable on that song), and I'm not sure what to do. Maybe I should return it and order some new ones.

Give them back while you still can, don't risk being stuck with a broken can for a long time...

I did similar stuff like you, I reversed everything, changed the HD-600s cable, connected a different headphone. The 570s rattle a lot, but at least equally on each driver  The 600s were always able to play back deep bass at high volumes with little to no distortion.

I wonder what I could have done to break them. I had them now for 1 1/2 years with heavy daily usage. Anything that makes these cans distort is so loud I can't stand listen to it, so I don't think I've been overpowering them.

I'd be happy with being able to get them fixed and back in the 2 weeks. Get them in the mail. You should still go ahead and order the HD650's, that way if anything happens in the future you will have the 600's, and 650's. Give in to temptation.

Damn you :)

Yeah, there was never really a question about getting them repaired. I was just wondering if the 14 days were a real figure or an optimistic guess.

Not sure if I should actually bother to get the 650s. I currently have an Audigy (ack!) as the source and then use a tech+link cable to connect it to my Corda-HA1. I feel I should upgrade my source first to an M-Audio Revolution / Terratec EWX.

Did you already check to make sure no hair was poking through touching the driver? I've had that generate obnoxious buzzing in the bass, it's easy to fix. Even one little hair will cause it sometimes.

I sent my HD570s back for repair not too long ago, and they came back within 8 days after shipping.

Funny though, I had the EXACT same problem with the HD 570s ( rattling noise in left earcup and slight distortment ). Sennheiser labeled it as "defective" and replaced it with a brand spankin new HD570 for $0

Tim,

I had a driver go bad (went all crackly) in my HD 280 soon after I bought it, so I took it back to my local shop. I had been chummy with them for years, so they shipped it to Sennheiser Canada on their dime. Sennheiser sent it on to their repair facility, which then shipped it back to me by second-day air. Total turnaround time was a week.

My 280s were repaired and returned, by the way. I didn't receive new headphones. However, I know of folks who sent completely trashed headphones in for warranty service and received new headphones in return. Sennheiser's service department has always been well-regarded, but especially by those who have dealt with them.

D.
