So i bought a pair of these Sony MDR XB700's about 4 weeks ago from J&r for $80, and they finally shipped. I just plan on using them for personal music, and i was wondering what a good headphone amp would be? Also i was wondering the specs on dre beats just to see how much better they are  thanks

i bought these  phones MDR-XB700  for 35 euros. they sound  very good even with extra bass effect. they have wide sound stage,a little bit crispy highs, but that is not an issue. only matter that i have to admmit is that they have only 1 meter long cable. this is good for sound quality ,but not for listening on longer distance. O 24 ohms they have very good expression and speed... wow great phones

Doesn't really need a Headphone amp but I figure most would recommend a fiio e7/e9/e10 to go with that.

I disagree, they don't sound particularly impressive ampless, volume wise no prob but sound quality wise yes.

Agree with RPG. For portability, get an E11. Otherwise the E9/E7 will do just fine.

these MDR XB700 are definitively for trance, idm, downtempo,downbeat,dub,d'n'b,tech-house music.experts  from sony made them for that kind of music. for ipods mp3 players ,digital sound carrds. not monitoring neutral sound.
