Because that's just the way it is. Make sure they are an authorised dealer though, fakes do float around.

you can also consider vsonic gr06, cx880 should be worse than hisound or vsonic.

(LOL) beats and bose are totally out. The Turbines are far better than the two. 

the cx880 sucks - if it was like 20 bucks I would consider it but there are way better oprions in that price range. The same goes for the bose. With contenders like GR06 and SE215 you shouldn't be looking for fancy looks but for the sq. Anyway, if you're already set on buying one from the ones you mentioned then the turbines will be the best choice

As somebody who actually owns the OCX880 (the over-the-ear variant of the CX880), I will say that I do prefer it to the Monster Turbine. The Sennheiser has a larger soundstage and is more airy, but the trade-off here is the (O)CX880 gives you some sibilance. Both headphones are quite bassy, with the Sennheiser having deeper bass. The greatest fault of the (O)CX880 is the fit; while the earphones fit me fine and I rather like the newly designed tips, many users seem to have trouble getting the fit just right, resulting in a harsh sound with either too much sibilance and/or too much bass. Because of potential issues with fit, I'm only confident recommending them when Amazon has them as a Gold Box or other daily deal, where they can be had for around $50.

It's just a shame about the fit issues since I feel Sennheiser has a really good driver here. Some further tweaking to lessen the bass some and they could have a winner on their hands.

I owned the cx880's for a while, nothing special, just a bit better than the cx300

You didn't list the price range, so i recommend sm3v2
