**Hifiman HE-400 Impressions and Discussion Thread**

Hi everyone. So I have used my K550 for months and I am thinking upgrading it. Since I couldn't find any comparison b/t K550 and HE400, could any body here tell me the difference and similarities b/t these two? I don't have much phones so my feeling may be subjective, but I think K550 is clear and analytically while the mid is a little far IMO. I listen to pop and classic most of time. Do you think HiFiman is a good upgrade in my taste? I am also looking at HD650 but its price is higher and I don't know if it's worth to spend a couple more hundred on that. I am appreciate that if anyone could give me any suggestions.

I just bought a pair of HE400s and they are definitely a class or two up from the K550s but don't think they work well with portable DAPs fyi. I'll be listing them shortly for sale or trade. They're brand new and have the spare velour pads so, if you're seriously considering a move to theses phones, pm me.

Velours pads are a no brainer at $10...better for sure IMO

Wouldn't you agree however, that making the jergpad is worth in comparison to using the velours? My jergpads are breaking down a bit and I used velours for a day. I honestly could not stand the sound coming out of the velours because the vocals sounded so off and spikes and dips were so much more audible. Regarding EQ suggestions, I kind of don't understand why people just take the frequency response graph of HE400 and try to flatten it out from there? That's what I do and works wonders for me in reaching neutral sound with the HE400. Just don't understand some of these EQ suggestions unless you want a colored sound.

So I can't wait for the 400i and bought a HE400 yesterday. Also, I bought a Schiit Asgard 2 since I think my old amp is not powerful enough for it. Can anybody tell me if this is a good combo? Otherwise, for something between 200 and 400 USD are there any amps that can better paired with HE400? Is a DAC or CD player needed(yes I have a lot of CDs), I am using a X3 now? I am really appreciate your response.

I used a Little Dot MK3 with the HE-400 for a while. It's a decent pairing, but not quite to my taste. A little too thick and slow in the bass IMO, but some people like it. It also ran out of power and distorted on certain songs when I really cranked the volume.

Interesting, how high were you cranking it?
Would the T1 be a better bet for them? Or something else entirely?
I'm not really looking to spend a ton on the set up.

I run the Jergpad mod v2.5 but without the velours stitching. The soundstage changed in a very positive way. Best sound so far and pleather comfort. Bass modified Darkvoice 336SE offers the glorious sound of triode.

Pretty high. I didn't have a db meter on my phone at the time, so I can't say exactly how loud. It wasn't a problem 95% of the time.

Can't comment on the t1.

I haven't heard the vali but a lot of people like it with the he-400 and it's cheaper than the two amps you mentioned. Might be worth considering.
