so you think there are different versions of mediago? think i'll give up on it if there is. i was only using it to try and get playlists on the 1070

I suppose its like with the Z1070 for Japan only, the world gets a different version very small minded in my opinion..... it won't even recognise Atrac but on my Z1070 menu (on PC) mediago is there... gotta find away to open it... you can see it above OMGAUDIO in the PC set-up photo earlier.

I did the 'set-up' thingy... you can have a go at that

i've not even tried to get mediago on the 1070 itself and that is as far as i will go! i'm gonna give up on mediago completely. just have sonicstage 4.3 installed and will use that to rip any gapless albums to atrac3+ and will continue using dbpoweramp as my primary ripper for non atrac3+. i'm not re-ripping my collection or converting anything else to atrac3+, just the gapless albums. to get album art onto tracks ripped by sonicstage, you need to edit each track in sonicstage and add the artwork that way. bit of a hassle but it is the only way i can see works. give me a shout if you need help on this.

as far as getting tracks onto the player, i'll contnue using the windows explorer drag and drop method.

have you used the w-control button on the side? any problems? couple of times when the player was playing music but the screen sleeping, if i pressed the w control on the side the track would stop. the player hadn't crashed, just the track stopped. if i woke the player and pressed play the track continued. not a big hassle as i can't see myself using it.

unfortunately the set-up menu is in Japanese, I have had a few go’s at ‘click & hope’ but I get so far then it all goes pear-shaped…..

Hello to all, I just joined because I too was thinking of getting an NW-Z1070 and wondered if people had any luck outside of the Japanese market.

As far as using the set up menu:  Is it possible to cut and paste text from the Set Up screens into Google Translate to translate from Japanese rather than "clicking and hoping"? Google Translate works fairly well for translating text, although the word order can be a bit jumbled.    Or are the problems deeper than that?

My first post-my apologies if it comes out poorly...

ok on this screen-capture I click on the 'left' button - that led me to the next S-C....

The button on the right is 'cancel'..... I need advise on which one to click-on the one on the 'left' or the 'middle' one

In case anyone still watches this thread, I have done some investigating with my new Z1070 today and can make some comments here.  The top screen above is a welcome to the install message.  The (N) here on the left button means Next, as do those 2 characters next to it.  The right button is Cancel.  Note: in Media Go, (Y) & (N) in the same screen mean Yes and No.

The 2nd screen starts the software upload/backup from the WM to the PC.  There is an option to change the file location if you dare.  The buttons are (B) Back, (N) Next and Cancel.

If you want or need to do the upload, click next. I believe the WM has everything it needs already programmed in it. The software is really for the PC, but there are other places to go for that online. Unless you have a Japanese Windows OS and knowledge of the language, this won't be terribly useful. See following messages from me.

Ok I figured anything with the (N) means yes as it led me two the two following stages.....

now in this SC I click on the right hand side button and get a 'error message saying 'windows cannot install language'.... click-on the 'middle' button and it goes into set-up installation... no progress  this way either as same error message appears

The top screen here is a EULA (user agreement) with (N) for Next. The middle screen advises that Sony's X-App will be loaded. As OK-Guy reports, both the middle & right buttons will lead to error messages unless you have Japanese Windows. I think the right one might fail quicker since I believe it is only an X-App opt out. They both failed for me. Since I have Windows Ultimate (this is not an endorsement since I absolutely despise that company!), I uploaded a Japanese language pack and tried again with Next.  I was then able to install the Japanese WM guide just before the X-App install failed.

All this install seems to provide is backup (of itself?!), the WM guide,  X-App, and their Icon shortcuts.  The WM guide is available at Sony support in English if you specify support for NWZ-Z1060 or other English version.
The X-App is for the Japanese market and it's screens are in Japanese. If you check out cklow1's post #1292 and following posts on Head-Fi's

NEW Sony Walkman Z Series mini review!!!

you can alter X-App to make it run on English Windows.  The screens will be in Japanese, however.  Since they appear to be non text screens, that can't be fixed.  I played with it today with the help of Google Translate and Sony Japanese support.  It's not too difficult.  Even just clicking buttons "by guess and by golly" can get you going.

I was able to load a CD & its album art to my new WM in Atrac lossless and it is pretty simple once you find the right buttons.  Once I get good with it I can even pass on button labels if there is any interest.

There is a beta X-App for English on CNET, but it seems to be only good for making collages, etc.  But maybe Sony is considering the English market in the future.

Cheers

OK I'm gonna leave set-up alone for the time being.... my next riveting question for Z1070 owner is.....

Which folder/files do I delete to get rid of the bundled music (it's not in 'music' folder).... I kinda think it's 'OMGAUDIO'..... any thoughts?

Hello OK-Guy
The music and album art are in the OMGAUDIO folder. There is some connection between Sony's OpenMG software and it's Atrac I believe. When I loaded an Atrac album on my Z1070, that's the folder where it landed. If you want to clean out the preloads, deleting the whole folder might screw up the Atrac ability.  The subfolders have the album art JPG's (3 copies/sizes each) and the Atrac files. I hardly have anything loaded on my WM yet, but I noticed all the music was in a folder starting with a number one.  The artwork are in the folder starting with 2.  I don't know for sure, but you might give the music a quick listen on the WM to match the artwork and then use Windows Explorer to clean out the files.

But if you have X-App installed, you can view your WM's contents in it.  Then highlight the music or videos or photos (individually-they aren't all in the same spot) and right click on them.  The menu that pops up will include a delete option.  It even has a (D) for the Japanese impaired . Cleans them right out.

Hi Now-What, thanks for that & all the valuable advise, yes I'm following the thread... I don't have a Z1070 at the mo as I sold it to Fortis but he's keeping me updated along with Alpha, though I will be getting another WM-Z towards the end of May.

The Media Go you see on your PC photo is just a folder on your PC that Media Go stuck there, perhaps as a landmark.  These media programs seem to search around your PC and install folders where they want. It did not come from the Z1070 software.  You must have had Media Go already installed.  I have both Sony X-App and Media Go installed and both will install music with album art onto the same WM. The WM will only use the type of files it is set up for, however.  And the M Go MP3s end up in the Music folder, not the M Go folder.  Weird stuff !  Atrac from X-App goes into the OMGAudio folder with its art.

BTW, there is some SonicStage batch conversion process that will move files from SS to the Japanese X-App if that helps, but I haven't tried it. SS isn't supposed to work with my PC's OS, so I haven't tried it & I know nothing

As requested and know you was also curious on this OK-Guy, thought best to post here instead of the Z mini review thread.

I found using SonicStage with the Japanese Z1070 does not like adding the album art in both Atrac 352 or WAV even though it tags okay with artist, track, album info no problems.

Only way to add with SonicStage is to manually add the album art by saving image files from Google.
I have included a quick step by step how to as you have to add the art for the album itself first and then go into the album to show tracks listed and add the art for each track manually one by one.

Easy enough buy tedious and time consuming..........

1: Highlight album to add art to; -

2: Click on properties;-

3: click the add button

4: Choose the album art from a designated folder where you would of saved a image from Google  earlier on and click on the open tab:-

4: You should see the album art inserted like so, just click ok to accept or if you have other albums to do click next and it will take you to the next album in the library if you have others to do.

To get all tracks to show album art you have to do each one individually within the album;-
1: Once in the album showing tracks go back into properties on the first track in the list and click add:-

2:& 3 - Chose album art again and open:-

4: To do the next track just just click next and then repeat steps 2 - 4 each time until every track in the album has album art.

Just to note I tried DB Poweramp to see if it transferred the album art from there okay but no luck.
Media Go also will not transfer album art with WAV files either.

So unless one uses mp3, AAC or FLAC which if using a third party player on the Z then album art will not automatically transfer to the Z.

Even with Atrac via Sonicstage is not automatically adding the art when gracenote downloads the actual album to library info so know it is not all down to the Z player itself where Sonic stage is concerned. Also clicking on find cover art option in SS it just comes back with a message "cannot find a cover art" all the time.

Hope this helps in some way for Z1070 owners having same issue, I am semi conversant with tagging aspect and album art etc - more a grade level 2 academic on this sort of matter so if there is someone with a 1;1 degree..........

I know there must be some issue with the Z itself been the Japanese model the way it is set up having issues with WAV files across the board with any media player used to rip & transfer to the Z1070 but cannot fathom why SonicStage is not downloading album art in the first place even with Atrac files so having to manually add it from a prior saved image in a folder.

Wow Fortis, that was one nice presentation !!  I have a lot to learn about posting apparently...

X-App takes the same number of steps to load album art to an album, but then it includes it on each track (at least if you highlight the album vs the track-I haven't played with it too deeply yet to see what other options there are).  It also loads art to the Z1070 in Atrac or WAV, so it is my main method still.
