I'm probably the only one here but I don't really like the old designs. Too plain and subtle for me. The wood that audio technica use look a lot better imo, especially on the limited editions. The new designs might be something you need to see in person and grow to appreciate. I'd be interested in these headphones if they were properly closed, and not semi-closed like the current models. I've always found it pointless to have a closed headphone that leaks sound like an open one.

No way, those cups.... they are gorgeous. And the black is a nice subduing contrast to the flashy cups.

Differing opinions, mate, I'm not too fond of them.
The thing is, the red doesn't contrast too much with the black. A good way to look at contrast is to think of a picture of them in black and white. The cups would be a dark grey (from dark red), and everything else would be black; meaning not too much contrast. But if the metal bits are silver, you have a much higher contrast, making the object more visually interesting. Also, because of how flashy the cups are, they end up becoming the center of attention. When you look at them, the eye movement won't be equal around each part of the object since the band and hinge end up fading into the background compared to the overpowering cups.
The type of stain and treatment the cups use has also been faked in a lot of gaudy "faux-asian" furniture, which has also kind of ruined it for me.

Again, I'm not saying that they look bad, I'm just explaining why I'm not as fond of them. I'm also going to have at least one problem with everything. For example, personally, I think the Denons would look better if they had a slightly brighter and more detailed cup (some of Lawton's tonewoods look great). The problem is somewhat fixed if they have direct light on them, but they shouldn't have to rely on direct light.

Not that I'm looking for one currently, but it is fun to see development like this. Yeah it is a shame that they changed the aesthetic. IMO the first time I saw it back in April 1st, I need to remind myself that it's April's Fools. I guess the fools are us LOL. And I do think the old Dx000 aesthetics are nice, but I'm not too "in" with wood. I like more metallic designs frankly. But really the TH900 just takes the cake, like HOLY HELL midnblowingly beautiful. Awesomeness. Too bad at that price, it's going to take me like 40 years to get it.

I'm actually not too fond of the TH900's design. It's not bad, but I don't think it is quite as good looking as woodie Denons. The black aluminum prevents them from having the proper amount of contrast, the wood type is a bit too flashy for my tastes (though I do think the Denon cups are a bit too subdued, especially when not lit), and the actual shape of the cups (the "lip" in the middle of the cups looks odd, though I bet it was done for sound purposes). The thing I do think they did right, though, was the square cantilever, it looks much nicer than the curved one on the Denons.

IDK, the high sheen of it makes me like them, although that's a nightmare to maintain LOL. IDK what it is that this one attracts me more than the Denon woodies, but somehow I like the looks ot the TH900 more. Especially the matt black finish greatly accentuates the high gloss cup. So shiny. So classic, yet somehow contemporary.

Are they fully sealed though? From what Tyll found when he opened up all the Dxk, there's a "gap" between the cup and the uhh baffle for a lack of a better word.

And that's perfectly fine, everyone has different taste. :)

I don't think anything is "fully sealed", but I'd say that they are probably less sealed than most. They're absolutely not open headphones, but they aren't quite closed either. I'd rate them a bit more open than a closed headphone, but not nearly a semi-open. Do they leak? Not really. Do they isolate? Kinda.

Yuck, i heard this news from a chinese forum, what a stupid design, just like grado. This design seems too "americanized", although many would say it is the sound that matters, but come on, look at what they done, i heard that these new headphones are being designed by US designer and will be produced ib US too, maybe that is why they look in this hideous form.

How do they look like Grados?
And aren't you such a level-minded fellow.

I suspect that someone let the cat out of the bag before he was supposed to--if he was supposed to at all.

Sigh.... Must stow away these thoughts. [evil thoughts]

A good example to compare is supercars. Yes, supercars are all about performance, but design and aesthetics play a very important role in it as well. Companies spend tons and tons of money making sure their supercar looks as good as it can, because when it comes down to it, looks matter.

Truthfully, if you had the cash, which car would you buy? The better looking Ferrari 599:

Or the faster SSC Aero:

I'd pick the best looking Ferrari of all time, the F550 Maranello
