What would be a good AV receiver to power Q701s?

An old school one with a clean and powerful headphone out. Any will do actually but depending on the manufacturer the signal path of the audio signal may get a sound signature of its own. It is for you to decide what works best so just walk into an audio store with the AKG and ask if you can test a few integrateds/receivers...
 
Tdog, the EP was my favourite reference headphone for a long time. It can reveal so much that you can just lose track of what you wanted to listen to in the first place.

Thinking of getting a pair of these to either compliment or replace (depending how much I like them) my AD900's.
 
Thoughts? Looking for something closed that has a bit more low end than the AD900's, and a bit more bass impact. Hoping these fit the bill?

Where to begin really. The mids and highs are much more detailed and resonant then my DT990s (Which i consider a very good set of cans anyway).
Bass isnt as good as my DT990s, but is much cleaner and more detailed - I prefer my Beyers for House Music and pop/RNB, but these AKG's are just amazing with rock and the more articulate Trance. A good amount of bass, but not too much.
The build quality is of a high level, and the set are very comfortable to wear despite lacking a lot of padding. Just below my DT990s, but leagues above my HD 280s.
As for driving them - my Galaxy Nexus WITHOUT amp was able to drive them to well above comfortable listening levels, whilst still being a good degree of clarity and no bass muddiness. Very impressed.
All in all, they are well worth the money i spent on them
 
One thing that confuses me, are these a really new model or something? Not a lot of people seem to have them despite innerfedelity putting them on their wall of fame next to the D2000s, and a lot of places don't seem to have stock.

They were released November 2011 I think.

Wonder if i should get the K550 instead of the Q701?

Hi everyone! Been reading the various akg threads and the q/k701 comparisons lately. Do you all think the Q701 would be a good complementary pair of headphones to the Grado SR225i? I'd like them to cover the acoustic/classical music I listen to.

It's always hard to make decisions when everything is so subjective, but as folks who actually own the stuff, I trust it a lot more

I don't own Q701 or the Little dot 1+, so I can't comment on how it will sound. But it does have the power to drive the Q701.

Yes--I think that they would.  In addition to the Q 701, I have the SR 325 and the MS1 (so I more or less straddle your 225).  The Q 701 will give you an excellent sound stage, clarity and sound signature that pulls you off the stage and back into the audience.  You might also enjoy them just to get a second take on the other types of music that you enjoy.
