I. Packaging
The packaging was great. It reminded me of an Apple product so the packaging engineers at V-Moda are doing their jobs. It comes with a hard case, a cable about 3.5 feet with iPhone controls and a mic, a cable around seven feet long, a 1/4" adapter, a clip, and of course the headphones themselves. I love the hard case, it really protects the headphones and I am a swimmer and bring the headphones to swim meets, so it's comforting to know that it is somewhat water-resistant when it's sitting in my bag. I use the headphones with my iPhone so the three button control cable is a nice touch.
II. Build Quality
These things are built tough. I mean real tough. Most of the headphone's makeup is metal, so the inside of the headband is metal along with the part that connects the headband to the speakers. These babies are also certified as being military-level quality. I am never worried about breaking them which is nice because being new to buying headphones, and being only a high school student, two hundred dollars is an investment.
III. Comfort
This is where these headphones lack, but possibly only for me. The headphones feel great when you first put them on, but after a half hour, my ears started to feel sore, and I need to adjust them so one side if the hexagon shaped earcups are resting on my ear so it gives them a break. This ruins the isolation, reduces bass and ruins the sound quality. The earcups are made of memory foam and by themselves they are very comfortable. I think the reason these are so uncomfortable to me is because the driver is not far away from where the earcup starts, so there is not enough room for you ear in the headphone. If you have small ears, then maybe these headphones are right for you. My ears are average sized, so anyone with big ears should stay away.
IV. Customization
I can't say first hand anything about customization but I can tell you about it. One of the really cool things about these headphones is that you can order custom ear plates to put on them. That is perfect for DJs that want to put their logo on it or something. There are many colors and textures of plates for you to order. They cost twenty-five dollars. The limited edition black matte ones come with chrome plates for you to try. You just unscrew the ones on the headphones and screw the new ones on. It's an interesting option.
V. Sound
The sound on these headphones is great. I'm a basshead and I listen mostly to dubstep, so these headphones are great for me. the bass response on these is fantastic, and the mids and highs survive through the intense bass. When I was considering buying headphones, all I wanted to know was a comparison to beats by dre to these headphones, so I want to tell you. The beats bass has more quantity and is louder. I'll just say that right now. But the beat's bass almost sounds like frequencies that aren't supposed to be bass do sound like bass, whereas the LP2s don't have this effect. When you read "the bass on the beats is overexaggerated" and you think "I want as much bass as I can get" you are wrong! At least that's what I thought, and now that I've heard these I have changed my mind.
In conclusion
I like these headphones, but I would only give them a 7 out of 10 because of the size. I can not wear these for a long time which defeats the purpose of having them. They have a 60-day test trial where you can return them as long as they are in good condition, and I highly recommend that you try these to see if they are right for you. Next on my list are the Audio Technica M50s. Wish me luck. I'll leave a link here to their review when it's done. Let me know things I can improve upon below. Thanks a lot!
