Woohoo! How did I miss this? Putting the LCD-2 back on my To Buy list.

Interesting. Sent mine back for a crack not too long ago, had my fingers crossed that my new pair doesn't crack as well (it probably will not, I believe a fairly low percentage do crack) but this puts my mind at ease now even if it should. Can't wait to see how this develops.

IMO these are all changes for the better -- a sign of a company who has their act together.  Quite a contrast from the knock-off artists who would have released 5 new models instead of refining the existing line.  Good stuff!

I don't think knock-off artist applies, as HiFiMAN released the HE-5 well before the LCD-2 came out. They're both wooden planars but very different really. The LCD-2 was more successful than the HE-5, but the HE-5 outdid the LCD-1 which wasn't really competitive in the grand scheme of things. These headphones were really all developed in parallel with each other.

I wonder if we're allowed to send our current pairs back for replacement - I'd appreciate the lighter weight and the LCD3 connectors since my cable is made for LCD3 and I have to bend them a bit to fit sideways into the LCD2 jacks.

I'll actually be receiving my LCD-2s tomorrow. that I ordered a few weeks ago, that were shipped after the date of the OP's post. I have a hunch that I will be receiving r2s. But if I in fact get the new revision I'll be sure to post up.

The cables are interchangeable. What would you have to bend exactly?

I meant to type the word, "twist." My cables' plugs sit naturally without twisting to insert into the LCD3 jacks, the little black stuff facing back. But since I'm using LCD2s with it, I have to twist them a bit, making the cable awkward. Yes, my cables are not as flexible because its rectangular wire inside. :P

Well, I guess now I've totally drank the Koolaid. Just a few months ago I was perfectly happy listening to my HD-580s plugged directly into my motherboard's headphone jack. Knew I shouldn't have hung out around this forum

Appearance-wise of this latest batch (manufactured in the past 2-3 weeks) does not appear different from any of the Rev 2 images posted by others here. I did order the original non-leather headband but I received the leather version instead, so perhaps this has to do with their stop making of the metal headband version?

Time to go read about upgrading the amp and cables!! :)

Has anyone noticed the update to the main LCD-2 photo on Audeze's front page?  It's been updated, and seems to show what's been discussed here - a different wood and the angled connector (although here instead of chrome, it appears black... which looks much better IMHO).  All in all it looks pretty good, although I think I still slightly prefer the old wood.  I have an oustanding order of these placed about two weeks ago... I wonder which version they will be shipping?  The reseller indicated he was expecting them to be shipping to them around 4/3.  But who knows, dates are always fluid.  But the update on the Audeze main page must be a good sign that they're getting close!

These are very sensible changes, no more (or greatly reduced) cracked wood and I love the new bamboo.

I was considering picking up a pair of LCD-2 rev. 2s a month ago. Glad I waited. The difference between these and my rev. 1s is finally large enough (not just in SQ, but comfort, ergonomics, and aesthetics) to where I feel better having them alongside one another.

By the by, are these "officially" called rev. 3? Or are they still considered rev. 2 due to the drivers not being changed?

Looks like there's another pic here. I do quite like the design update; it looks very clean, and I can't see cracking being much of an issue at all. Should be interesting to hear opinions on sonic differences

Yup. To be honest, I think I actually prefer the "new" LCD-2 look over my LCD-3s look. The LCD-3s do appear a tad more classy I guess with the exotic zebrawood and brown leather but I look the new bamboo look. I wonder if they're giving the "new" LCD-2s the same softer pads as the LCD-3s.
