Need a headphone amp for HE-500s…

The HE-500 tends to be midcentric.  Driving them with the LYR in combination with a midcentric tube, such as the Gold Lions or Mullards, will get you more of the same.  Try selecting a tube that accentuates higher and lower frequencies.

Not very much talk about DIY amps with the HE-500s.  All my DIY amps are balanced so they all have enough power.  While the 500s sound pretty good with the B22 it can get a little sharp or hot or sparkly up top but with the balanced M^3 it's great.  The treble is noticably smoothed out and no signes of hot treble.  I much prefer the balanced M^3 with the 500s almost a tube-ish type sound (but not).

Also tried them on my 200wpc mono block.  Although I didn't get any distortion I had no room to adjust the voulme.  It was either to low or to loud.  Not a good match at all.
