Hi, David.
I would own an Aristaeus only if I could find an Orpheus.
Best regards,

That's easy, here you go

Yes, the OII MKI - not sure why you're asking though.

Not sure if that was intended at me or not, but I have no clue, as I have next to no experience with that amp.

More of a general statement. Anyone who's heard both, I'd appreciate their thoughts.

Hi Erico

I've read the HE-90 is the best headphone to use with the Aristaeus, but I can't see the 009 sounding bad with that amp. Also if I had the money [ which I now haven't ] to pay the ridiculous asking price for the HE-90, I still wouldn't buy one, maybe half but not in the region of £10,000. Anyway with Sennheiser working on new Electrostatic headphones, with a bit of luck one might be a clone of the HE-90 but at a more reasonable price.

                                                        Dave.

I  agree.
I had the chance to buy an Orpheus a while back but I could not see the reason to pay USD 10.000 for it at the time.
I'm happy with the 009 and I want to believe that the BHSE does a better job to drive the 009 and the 007, so I also think I can live without the Aristaeus. If I had the HE-90, I certainly would purchase one.
Regards,
Erico

The second time IanG visited my place along with his 007mk1, we again tried his 007 and my 009 with my BHSE and found some songs sounded better with the 009, while others were better with his 007. This time however the BHSE had been on power for about three hours before he visited. I've said some songs l listen to with the 009/BHSE have volume issues, those songs were no problem with the 007mk1.

You know, 10 years ago, pre-Audeze, pre-Fostex TH900, pre-Stax SRM009, pre ATH-w3000anv, pre Senn HD800s (and others besides these favorites of mine),
AND pre-some of the breakthrough headphone amps that are around now,
the Orpheus and R10s were needed for an exalted level of sound that wasn't either painful or muffled.

I heard the Orpheus at shows back then, and thought they were excellent, but they were not better in all ways and overall just somewhat more satisfying than, say, Stax Omegas at the time (with the humble 007t amp).

I think time may have passed them by, and you can assemble a can't-be-beat system to your personal tastes from mainstream top of the line phones if you work at it.

(And of course, digital sound is far better too, and this certainly helps, so you don't need an extreme setup to deal with digital garbage so much anymore.)

Hi David, thanks in advance, but could you clarify or elaborate on what you are saying about the BHSE/009 combo? I'm not sure I get your meaning. I appreciate your time.

I've mentioned in some of my previous posts that volume using the 009/BHSE with some of the songs I listen to from my CD collection, can be a problem. But because most of the songs on my CD's sound unbelievably good even at above my normal listening volume, I feel those songs I have problems with are down to how they were recorded. What the 009/BHSE do for me is produce detail like I've never heard before and even more so after the BHSE's been on power for over an hour. If you're thinking of placing an order for the BHSE, then all I can say is I'm 110% happy with mine, my 009's I'm about 80 - 90% happy. I think the best thing to do rgs9200m is audition the 009/BHSE and the two songs you should listen to are  "Comfortably Numb" Pink Floyd and "Sledgehammer" Peter Gabriel. One can be listened to quite loud, the other not so much.

P.S. There were other headfiers that mentioned about volume problems about the 009 well before I did, so it's not only me. But I am going on about it so I think I should stop.

I'd just like to mention I had no volume problem when using IanG's 007mk1 with my BHSE, but obviously anyone shouldn't listen to anything too loud with any headphone.

OK, thanks David1961 for that comprehensive response. My feeling here is that my 009s have to be tamed a bit in the highs, and my 007t/ii amp (and some carefully chosen cables) does that well.
I am curious about the BHSE though. I go back and forth between the 009s and my dynamics, liking them all a lot but for different reasons.
(Currently pretty excited about my ATH3000anv phones.)
Best to you.
