I have the Porta Pros. I like them, but I'm interested in switching to a different model just to keep things fresh. The V6's seemed a tad too small for me when I tried them on, I don't like the HD497's very much at all, and I don't want to have to get all anal about positioning so the PX200's are out. That leaves the Beyer 231's. People seem to think they're comfy, and I'm sure they 're efficient enough for portable use.

My questions are about isolation and sound quality. I've read that the 231's don't isolate well, but are they completely open-sounding like the Porta Pros? And how's their sonic balance? Bright? Warm? Harsh?

I realize that not many people on here own these, but with so many thousands of members, someone must have something to say about these that hasn't already been said.

I have some comments on DT231 vs. PX200, and on the sound of the DT231, over in the What about the Beyerdynamic DT231? thread.

I find the DT231 very comfortable -- heavier than the PX200, of course, but still lightweight and easy to wear. But if you have larger ears than I have, you'd probably find it cramped. I haven't tried the V6, but if it feels too small to you, the DT231 probably will too.

The DT231s are not open-sounding, nor do they isolate very much. Written that way, it sounds like the worst of both worlds...yet I'm oddly fond of them.
