My HD-570, which I was perfectly happy, right side is no longer working properly. Sounds like it can't handle the bass anymore so I end up hearing a crackling sound most of the time.

Anyway, I was thinking about getting the 590 to replace the 570 but I'm not sure if it's worth the extra 50+. What do you guys think?

just about anything will be better than the HD570.

if it's only bass that you are after, perhaps you might want to consider the DT770.

Are you saying the 570s are crap??? Also, the ones you mention...how much do they go for?? I'm not sure if I want to spend more than $175 on headphones just for playing games.

IMHO, neither the HD570 nor the HD590 is worth anywhere near their going prices. Both of them sound like I'm listening to two completely different radio stations simultaneously - neither of which is correctly tuned. (Put it this way, they try to sound both forward and laid back both at the same time - and in a bad way.)

If you really like the HD570, go ahead and get another one, I personally don't think they're bad, like many around here, but only if they're well amped. The Grado SR60 sounds quite a bit better than the 570, and I think I like it better than the 590 as well. It is pretty comfy, though not quite as effortless as the 570/590. You might also like the A900 if you could stretch your budget a little, the A500 could be a cheaper option.

hd497's (sound good, not as comfortable as the hd570's, look cheap, >$70)
hd580's (but you'd need an amp)
cd780's (very comfortable, >$100)
gradosr60's (comfort may vary, sound great, not circumnaural >$70)

I bought my Hd590's primarily for gaming.. and then ended up buying the equinox cable and a pimeta/marantz. Overall I like the sound of the 590 but maybe that's because I've never heard any of the $400+ headphones that people are in love with. Ignorance is bliss ;p

I really don't want to spend more than $160 to be honest. The fact that all I used the phones for is for gaming would make me feel like I'm wasting my money.

Sounds like I should just stick with the 570s if I were happy with them already...seems like the 590s won't be worth the upgrade from what I gather from this thread.

I've got 570's now as well... I'm currently waiting for reviews of the new HD 515, 555, adn 595 from Sennheiser. If the review of the 555 is favorable, I think I might pick those up as replacements.

I would definitely recommend the Sony CD 780. They are cheap and while I never owned them they are often being compared to higher-end models. They are also supposed to the be one the most comfortable headphone, probably even more so than your HD 570's.

They are also supposed to be very easy to drive and improve noticeably with an amp.
