Here's my insane BASSSSSS rip for the TH-900.  This rumbles all the way to my toes.

Agreed, TH900 convey vitality, a sense of power and energy in the music while still having accurate acoustic timbre unlike many closed headphone which tend to play it safe by rolling off or shelving the highs, thus sounding compressed and ultimately, lifeless. These qualities are still preserved even when you EQ the headphone in the highs or mids as I mostly do, which I believe related to their bio-cellulose driver "native" sound.

i share your opinion of the th900, and the sonic qualities you describe along with its clarity, resolution and "soundstage" are what i love about it. that said, i don't regard it as a closed can to luxuriate in, and that's what the sony mdr-z1r offers while being no less resolving to my ears. there are times when i feel like a more relaxed presentation and that's when i opt for the w3000anv, which is a completely non-fatiguing listen for me. the z1r reminds me of the w3000anv in that sense, and i suspect that it improves upon it technically (tho i haven't compared them directly). i also found it more comfortable. the z1r is like the headphone equivalent of a plush recliner.

Joining the club as of this morning. And it is indeed glorious. I was able to order a pair of the mk1's on eBay for under $800 US. I don't mind the permanent wiring for the savings! That said, initial listening is pretty amazing. I guess I can understand the highs being too much for some. But coming from someone who briefly had the Beyerdynamic T90's, these are not really bad at all. And besides, the highs are seriously balanced out by the lows on these, unlike some others. Oh yeah, so much space on stage here. Considering how much I love my TH610's, they are going to be getting considerably less listening time for the time being.

Congrats on your new TH900's. They have a very unique and special sound signature, and I think you will enjoy them very much.

I'm using MrSpeaker's "doggie treats" to ameliorate the highs a bit. Works well, and under $20. They are just a certain type of felt like material you insert into your pad; so it's completely reversible.

Note, I didn't use the "dots"; I only used the felt.

Not sure I'd need anything like that for the most part. So far really loving these. The only time it got to be a bit much was having the volume loud and playing A Moon Shaped Pool, so far. The nice thing is these really don't need to be loud to enjoy the music. They're very all encompassing in the way they present the music. Really push all layers of sound at you, not just one thing like all mids, or all bass. And the sound stage is wonderful.

Is TH-900 worth an upgrade from D7000? (TH-900 MKII to be exact)
D7000 is my favorite in my collection and love the sound signature. In a constant search of something "better" I am thinking TH-900 MKII is it.

I've not heard the D7000.  But, the TH-900 is a worthy headphone.  I'm very happy with my TH-900 MKIIs.  They are my favorite headphone so far.

Owned them both side by side - both Lawton modded.  Kept the LA7000 mostly due to being basically the same headphone to my ears, loving the Teak cups I have on it and knowing the 900 would be a faster sale.  Some will say the 900 is better.  Not me.
