Agreed.  Not even.  TH900 bass is still the best for dynamic.  Can't speak for the abyss. But I know I'll never touch it.

Have you heard the new Sony or the Pioneer Master 1?

Curious about how they compare to the TH 900.

SEM1 have a wonderfull bass though in this area TH900 Are better. The mids are more clear and more pronounced on SEM1. That cant be a surprise though. They are better for Jazz or Pop than TH900. For EDM th900 are still Best. SEM1 are open and leaks much more sound. Not good if your family is in The same room. My own opinion ofc. Sorry for grammar writing from Phone.

Not even close

Abyss is probably the one pair of headphones that is just as good as the TH900 in the bass department. (LCD4 is close as well)

However Abyss has more distortion than TH900 over the entire frequency range. TH900 has noticeably better instrument separation and transparency. Yes I just called Abyss "veiled". I am talking about both phones with stock cable, driven by Liquid Crimson

Reading comments from some people they speak as though it is a bloated bass cannon. I guess they like zero impact to their headphones.

I mean... to some degree, it is. A bloated bass cannon and blackboard-scratching treble freak.

But I freaking love it.

Lol i thought that too until i had a proper audition with it. Fit is really important with the abyss. I agree TH900 does have better imaging but i would have to disagree on it being more transparent.

I love my TH600, does TH900 will be worth upgrade?

what's the significant difference between these two?

If there is a better headphone for bass than the TH900 I don't know what it is. Maybe the Focal Elear is that headphone? I will have to listen to them at my local headphone shop to see if they can beat the TH900s.

I join the two others who say the Elear's bass is nowhere near in extension and slam to that of the TH900. Also, it is a different kind of bass, the TH900 oomph is lower, so it's a bit like apples and oranges. Both have strong points and weak points.

What struck me more: my modded TH900 sounded much more open and with way better mids than the Elear, which was more closed/shut in/veiled/wooly. Taking a look on the ear pads, I think it's possible to improve on the Elear -- for one I wonder how the Utopia pads would sound on the Elear.

Overall, the TH900 is more colored than the Elear, but the Elear is colored, too, and I think it is safe to say the stock TH900 is the better of the two, for me. Perhaps it should be, as it's more expensive than the Elear.

My second listen to the Utopia went better, but even if it was a closed headphone with similar price as the TH900, I would still think twice which one to get, but given the price difference, the choice is easier :). The Utopia really needs good amps (bass-heavy but transparent tube amp would match best). I like both my Stax 007's (Mk1 and Mk2) and the 009 over the Utopia. I also like the HE1000 more.

Anyway, I have yet to find a headphone with better deep bass than the TH900. The Audeze XC didn't make it for me. I've never heard any Ethers. Perhaps the new HE1000 v2? (But even then, I need a closed can).

I agree. I am confused every time I see people bringing the Elear up when discussing top-tiers... Come on. Elear is just muddy. Y'all ears are better than this...

What mods do you have on your TH900?

I haven't heard the Elear but I own the Utopia and if the Elear were anything like the Utopia in the mids department then it's pretty surprising that the TH900 mids are much better than Elear. I'd say mids aren't the strongest point on the TH900 unless it's on a super nice tube setup.

As far as Utopia goes, I've spent a lot of time with it and besides the bass department they are in another league, as they should be at that price point. It is super suprising that you would have a hard time choosing between the TH900 and Utopia (ignoring price of course :D)

Well, someone claimed Utopia is "the best headphones in the world". There, you have it

. Do you want a bisque with your cup of tea too ?

Utopia is one of the best. My cup of tea is my cup of tea, but muddiness is muddiness. I just don't brew tea with mud.

I compared the TH900 and Utopia in my review of the Utopias. In short, the Utopia is far and away the superior headphone as it should be at about 3 times the price. That being said, i did still prefer the TH900 for EDM & Electronica, nothing beats them in those genres IMO.
