Hi,
I just literally got shocked my the right driver of my Audio Technica ATH-AD2000 cans that I just bought a month ago. I was listening to Music via a Nufore uDAC 2 when I felt my right ear recieving an electric shock after which the right driver stopped working altogether. Now I really really hope I haven't damaged the headphone beyond repair. Is there anyone that could give an explaination of what might have happened and what I should do to resolve the issue? I bought the AD2000 used. The original owner bought it in 2004 so I am way out of service time.
Is this something I should attempt to fix myself? I will just be in Japan for another week. So should I better get in touch with the audio technica support in Germany? What about the nuforce DAC, any chance it might have caused the blast?

This will either have been the last time for me to buy an Audio Technica product or a nuforce product. Depending on who is the culprit.

Thanks for any advice.

Edit: I just thought about plugging the AD2000 in another line in and it worked!!! So a big **** YOU goes out to nuforce for making a product that is not only prone to failure but also a possible source of damage to my ridiculously expensive heaphones and my even more expensive HEAD!

I've had my Q40 do that several times, also only from the right driver for some reason, although it hasn't happened lately, when it was colder (when we had like -20~25 C) it seems to have happened quite often but for me there's like no signs of driver breaking though, it doesn't budge one bit soundwise when it happens, just my ear get a unpleasant suprise haha and it's usually so bad I flinch from it cuz it's suprisingly strong.

Static buildup seems to be quite common if you search around the net, people have the same problem with apple ibuds for example. Cold, dry air increases the chance of happening.

This was not just static buildup. After I was zapped it smelled like someone was smoking outside the window before I realized that the uDAC 2 was emitting the smell. So much for build quality on nuforce products. I just hope they replace it as soon as possible so I can sell this piece of crap.

FYI Here is the answer from nuforce. This was the last time I bought anything from them:

We cannot replace the item because you purchased it used on E-bay and the warranty is not transferable to any third party.  If you require further evidence of this fact we would refer you to the uDAC-2's Manual which can be downloaded from our website here:

http://www.nuforce.com/hp/support/manuals.php

Therefore, your best recourse would be to sell it on E-bay for the chassis and parts value, or simply discard it.
