Question about a DAC that can do 96/24 through USB

Thread Starter

I can't seem to find many DAC's in my price range ($200-250) that can do 96/24 through USB and I was wondering if anyone could make some suggestions for me :) ?

I know the Fiio E17 coming out can but I would like to purchase something now if possible. I'm currently using my Fiio E9 to drive my HD650's.

Also since this is my first post/thread I wanted to say long time lurker and have enjoyed reading this forums for a while :)

my experience: dr.dac nano + hd650 = dr.dac nano + hd590 = laptop integrated sc (no sound improvement at all)

That iBasso D7 looks to be exactly what I need . Question though , what exactly does "asynchronous" mean? I take it .. that it means it can do both 96/24 via coax/optical or USB? While that effect the fact that I'm using a Fiio E9 to drive my HD650s? And will buying another Headphone AMP/DAC be double amping my already in use E9?

From the Greek:  a- (free of/from), syn- (same, together), chronos (time).

"Asynchronous" means that the DAC functions not as the slave tied to the computer's clock, but rather as the host device, meaning that it is the DAC which sets the clock speed for data transfer.  This allows for increased bandwidth (i.e. 24-bit/96kHz) and serves to reduce, if not eliminate jitter.
